Travis, can you put up a pic of how/what you did?

its not his truck hes talking about, its mine, and my dad is the one who did the work. and no i dont have any pics as i had to take the water pump on and off 5 times this weekend and when he finally fixed it, i put it in and never looked back. it is holding up good so far.

Glad to hear it - I have filled my fuel tank twice with the same water pump in so things are looking good so far. Thermostats are on their way and will go in early next week, then I'll be at the track on the 19th and possibly sled pulling that night.

Spoke too soon - another one bites the dust. Got the T-stats in, drove it until it got up to temp and then got rough on it off and on for a few minutes; now I have a broken water pump again. Time to go electric and be done with it.

I have unfortunately joined this club , any new ideas or fixes to this problem before I put a new gm pump back in?? I will post up some
Pics of my carnage but it just spun the impeller off the shaft.

Corries tossed an impeller on a brand new napa pump right after i put the engine together in the spring, had about 500 miles on it and 13 dyno pulls, tossed the impeller on the one of last pulls, seems as though they dont like 45~4700rpms that many times!!! since ive welded both the gear and impeller and drilled about 6- 1/8" holes in both thermostats, got about 1000 miles and 15 sled pulls on it now all seems well!

Thanks for the incite guys , I keep hearing different ways to go. I had a very respectable racer tell me no
Need to weld them it still will fail from his experience . I really don't know what to do other than to keep listening to ideas and learn from you guys that have worked
Through this before me !! Lol. Thanks Trey

I also cut a grove in the area i welded just to get more weld on it, there isnt much room on the gear side to have the weld hanging out!!

I have had an electric pump on mine since last summer. not only have I driven it on the street but also towed my 21' camper over 2 hrs away in 85 degree weather . I havent had a single issue . I would like to try some of Pat's thermostats , on initial warm-up the temp is jumpy ( I think it flows to much at low rpm ) .

Electric water pumps will barely cool a NA 346ci aluminum block engine. Pretty much race only components, or lightweight street rods.

Hey Pat my stewert electric water pump kept my truck good and cool but I only got to drive it a 1000 miles and did not get to test it anymore during the summer but it seemed like it was going to be just fine when my truck was running during the spring
