I am from Utah too! :thumb:

Good to see more Utah people on here. :D

I rarely post but do read a lot.

There is a guy locally here by the name of Kelly Harris who is an Allison expert himself with over 20+ years of working on specifically GM vehicles. He actually worked at Larry Miller Chevrolet where looks like you bought your truck! He has since moved on from that and sells tools. Uses suncoast parts, mine has never skipped a beat period since I got the truck back from being done. He built my trans as well as Zach Fuller's of Starlite Diesel.

Zach is also local and does EFI live tuning; he owns Starlitediesel.com. I do outside sales for him locally but you can also contact him directly...

Feel free to pm me with any questions or if I can help in anyway!

I know my truck has a couple of mods and I think it may have been chiped. There is a metal nipple on the driver door pillar where it looks as though analog guages or a tuner may have been. i wish I knew if it had a built tranny. Is there a way I can use my VIN or something to track and see if it has been built?

I am sure not, but I would hate to build a tranny and when the mechanic opens it up, find out it has been done.

Thoughts?

Not much to see without taking it apart... You could check line pressure and see if it's had a shift kit installed. Normally on a 5-speed it is pointless to do the transgo without replacing clutches and springs internally... My guess is no built transmission But you never know.

You could always load up a trans smoker tune and see if it holds lol.:D

There is a little tin plate on the drivers side bottom of the tran mission. You can pop that cover out and see if the torque converter is white, pink, black, blue, metalic brown, or purple

Each torque converter company paints them a certain color if its raw looking steel its most likely stock. If the pump rub fix hasnt been done to the t case your going to want to get that done also.

So my mirrors obviously suck balls. I can't retreat without taking time to aim the passager side down at my wheels. The field of view blows. I have been checking out the Kool Vues. First of all, I loke the 2 arm LOOK. Second they are a proper tow mirror that allows good blind spot coverage and bottom mirror for easy back-up.

Any other recommendations?

My stock mirrors have auto extend (pretty cool) but no heat. Can I use these wires interchangably?

Ctrump90 just bought some aftermarket mirrors that are almost identical to the 06 and up mirrors that were heated and have the built in turn signals he also had them color matched to his truck ,i guess they are very nice.

These are the ones I'm probably going to get for my 2001. I'll just have to change up the connector, and add wiring for the turn signal/marker LED's. I think I'll like em a lot better than turn signals in the glass.

I like those and I agree with the marker being in the edge vs in the mirror.

After closely looking at them, they are just a bit too rounded on the top outer corner.

I know.....really being picky, but I like it a lot more squared off. These are still in the running and now in my bookmark.

Good price, too

Ok so I have been looking at tow mirrors for a while now. I can be a bit too particular at times so I need a little help from you guys.

What I have found are real close to what I want (heated, power extending- I think, marker on the outside housing) . However, they all have rounded off corners. I am wondering if there are any out there that are more squared off, like a ford tow mirror?

Thanks in advance

I always thought the fords were kind of rounded and thats why i liked the 06 and up d max tow mirrors but they are not power extend that i know of.

I like/have the Schefenacker Mirror's they are a little more sporty lookin but not to large or round... Decent coverage and have a small concave mirror so you can see up close next to the truck. Kennedy sells them and is a vendor here:thumb: You can also get them without the ugly turn signal end cap... The only thing I don't think they offer is power extend.

I guess your right now that I look a little closer. I am mainly looking at the back side of the mirror (what oncoming traffic wouls see). I guess it was mainly the "backstrap", if you will, of the mirror. I am referring to how the arms come across the housing. It kind of makes it look more blocky on the Ford. I like a more blocky look.

I cant find pic of the exact 06 dura tow mirrors. If you have any of the front. Back and side it would be appreciated if you posted up. Auto extend isnt a huge deal, I just happen to have it on my 05 and though I would like to make use of it.

BurnDown, thanks for the link. Those are pretty cool looking. Just not for me. I prefer a taller rectangle. Sweet mirrors though. Do you mind posting a couple of pics so I can see how they look mounted?

Like I said, I can be too picky sometimes and cripple my decision process. Any who, I just have try every avenue to get as close as I want. The main thing is that I have to get rid of these crappy mirrors that are on it, they are going to get me in an accident the field of view is so poor on them
