Who are the Trainees? What are you training them to do?Trainees loaded and headed to Joplin Missouri. Going to go check on that little Cummins Marine project, and hopefully rebuild these puppies over the weekend.
Anyone interesting to see along the way?. Mark said I can't wake him up at 3 a.m. however. LOL

Good news, clutches are smoked.. So warped you can pop em like a mason jar lid... Waiting on the UPS truck to deliver the new ones this morning, then hopefully back on the road home tonight.

Hopefully the package on it's way has Raybestos fiber waffle cut and not the Borg smooth ones like we had. Was a nationwide search to find some cause not the typical GM factory application.
Crank up line press, and resolve shift delay issue and should be good to go.

Clutch has arrived, same dang ones I had. Okay where's all my tranny guys, transtar no help.

That would be super.
Issue we ran into is everyone keeps cross/ref the Alto # over to over to a standard Borg 4T80E 3rd gear, which while correct, is a paper rather than fiber. I was told by someone yesterday that Raybestos make them in a fiber, but guy didn't call back.
Here is a pic of what we tried last time, and received today.. That part # should be a waffle like in second pic..

I’ll let you know Monday. If that’s the correct PN there’s a 99% chance that’ll be easy to get as long as I specify it must be waffle cut as my main supplier is familiar with that style of clutch.
Sweet. We believe that part# is correct, but best ask they send ya pic. Last time he ordered any was 2006.
I'll take 50 if ya can find em. 20 to rebuild mine, and Tyson would like to keep some spares. He also has couple hundred of the papers veraion if anybody has a use.

I found a Raybestos high energy clutch disc, R572250, but it's not a waffle cut, just a black high energy friction.

I believe those are the "Greens" that actually came up in a discussion yesterday. And may be our goto if we can't source the others. I did actually find some pics from when we tore these transmissions down first time in early 2019. The original Alto is NOT a waffle as I recalled. Or what we pulled out was not original. Reverse is a waffle however....
First pic is of what we pulled out in 2019. Second is an R572250.
Original looks slightly different in materail and color, with about twice s the amount of groves. But at least we are going in the right direction.

Can you give me a call/text? I'm working with the regional Alto rep and the 111704 clutch is what you pulled out in 2019. The waffle clutch you're looking for is not the same tooth count and looks to be a much larger OD/ID.
The 111704 is a paper material and not the fiber or bronze material. What drives/transmissions are these in?

Ok I learned more today about wet clutches than I ever wanted to know...
In the end, we found the exact same clutches I pulled out in 2019, which were the Alto "black" with a Radial or sunburst grove pattern. Not a waffle pattern, nor is there any waffle pattern options available besides custom orders. However after some research, waffle is probably not the best pattern for this power application. Thanks for all the help Brad

In the end, we found the exact same clutches I pulled out in 2019, which were the Alto "black" with a Radial or sunburst grove pattern. Not a waffle pattern, nor is there any waffle pattern options available besides custom orders. However after some research, waffle is probably not the best pattern for this power application. While in MO last weekend I stopped by LOTO to check out some other big boy toys. And just so happened to stumble across the engines that ate up those clutch disks pictured above. If tranny's held up to these puppies at 200mph, pretty certain we can work things out...
Also a couple cute 9.7L Merc 1350hp engines, with petty covers..
I wonder how clear the diamonds 100psi boosted up Duramax's make are?
PS. Those 4 engines make my Duramaxs seem CHEAP..

Glad to help! I wish we could have gotten the exact clutches you set out to find but apparently they are a myth or no longer produced. With what's available and your size constraints I think that the Alto clutch will likely be your best bet and lets hope the hold with the new found pressure!
