The mailbox post? Probably have ya one done in a day or so..

Gotta see if I have a matching case half. One is FUBAR'd, and if center section is possibly repairable...

Also stripped a spline on output shaft..

Damn Ken, I don't think I want a Dmax boat now! Coolest project ever but the same issues we had when Tony B. built the airboat, none of the stuff would hold up to it like they did with the gas engines, too much thumping from the diesel!

I may have ran it low on oil once or twice. Had full intentions to remove that drive inspect that box the following monday. By look of the Good gear set in there, she'd got a little hot on the teeth prior to the explosion.

But it still exploded two major pieces of driveline simultaneously, and that's pretty freaking cool no matter how ya look the carnage..

Yuck.
Was there any advantage to running these that kept you out of the merc drives first time around?

Currently there is one Duramax jet boat out there, and it's coming along nicely. But at only a 500hp version with a Hamilton. He had to make a custom screw for it due to cavitation issues from all the torque. But believe it's about ready to show up in some video any day now.

At current power levels, jets is not really an option. They are terribly inefficient compared to a surface drive. And you have to match the pump to a specific torque curve to get it right. Not just change gear ratio or props to fit the power. However I'm currently searching for a pair of L5P's to do a twin jet setup with same customer as this Baja, but on a different boat. More of an ex-military version or maybe a RIB. Not sure yet, but we want to see if Banks dyno data actually translates to reliability in a marine setup.

While I'm waiting for the new gear pieces to come out of heat treating, have a few metal fab jobs I'm trying to catch up on. Like diamond plate the engine bay area, and finish a couple custom SS trim pieces. However I haven't had much luck finding anyone down here in the Bradenton FL area to tackle it. Several no shows, and plenty of booked up two months out replies. Had good luck with small pieces from waterjet and powdercoating shops, but no luck finding someone to just come look at the bigger stuff. If any of you guys know someone that wants to make some easy side $$$ please let me know..

Got it up to 70mph again that day. Next day out discovered an oil feed line on turbo end leaking. Fixed that but didn't notice the oil soaked turbo cover. Next time we got up to 70, she developed a warm glow under the glass. Upgrading both turbo feed lines now.. lol

Got some new turbo lines that shouldn't be so heat sensitive.. Found a local shop that does top notch hose work, faster and cheaper than I can do myself.

Note to self. No pretty Vibrant rubber hose around hot parts. :)

nice. any reason you couldn't have made up some hard lines instead? or is it coming off something remote to the engine and needs the flexibility?
