Who cares...YOU CALL GM!!! What is this stuff about too much compression? I am no expert but every headgasket I have repaired was LOW in compression. Maybe someone here knows something I don't know.

So your saying a dealership can go in and change anyones warranty records? If so, they surely cannot change GM's internal system.

I don't know about if they can CHANGE anything, but they can sure manipulate what is put into the system.

These dealers make me sick, I would ask if they even have a trained and certified diesel mechanic on hand, I know a delaership we used was having an ASE certified mech work on it but he was not a "diesel" mechanic, you should have heard this guy try and explain the fuel sustem to me with our LB7, he was an idiot

I thought too much boost etc cause headgasket problems and I. Have never ran more than 30psi. So not sure. I don't know what to say to gm josh, I need the truck to look it over or I have no evidence and its my word vs the dealers

Sounds like they're saying it has excessive blow-bye. I'd personally pursue this and not just give up. Get their diagnose IN WRITING!

Go to a "referred dealer' in your area someone here has to know a respectable dealer that they have used. PAY them to do a diagnose ,head gasket failure. Then arrange a meeting with the regional rep and the first dealer and shove it you know where.

They have already blocked his power train warranty

I understand that but I'm assuming that he would like to get that reversed. From what I'm reading it seems they're saying that the HG blew from excessive mods resulting in causing excessive blow-bye which is causing the gasket (valve-cover) to leak and the tick. No?

Maybe I'm reading it wrong.

So I would go to a dealer even if it was in another state explain to them at MY COST I would like a proper diagnose. Since then you will have a second opinion and the proper diagnose assuming it isn't a HG contact the regional rep showing the original dealer is full of shit.

Make sense? Got to or have to start some where.

They really did or the just tell him they did? I was told by a dealer that mine was void, but it wasn't. If it was me, I would go get my truck right meow!

Hard to say but I would believe that a dealer alone cannot void a warranty. I would have to assume a regional rep would have to inspect the vehicle. Well if it was me certainly the dealer alone wouldn't control my warranty destination,no way no how

I'm assuming that they have had contact with GM and it would be up to the consumer to request a Rep. So probably if he returns at a latter date to have warranty work it would have to be approved by a rep prior to servicing. So probably they're waiting for him to call BS and get the Rep there. Then upon the rep's finding the warranty can be voided.

Myself I'd bring it somewhere else that someone can recommend. all dealers aren't the same some can have some pull

Perhaps this dealer has had some warranty problems with GM. Look at the valve cover issue . They said it was repaired previously now it wasn't just parts ordered. Perhaps they're scamming ,who knows

Almost need to keep it at that dealer and have a Gm rep come out and look at it were they can not say he did anything else to it. Also they can see the last 10 tune changes in the ecm and the tcm so all they have to do is take a screen shot of that and they can turn him down. But I see he paid for a extra service contract so I would try getting it repaired under that or I would want a full refund on that if they say its no longer any good also. They never changed the valve cover gasket.

Ya didn't really think of that if he retakes possession of the vehicle then they can assume he altered it. Sounds like he's pretty much screwed unless he can come up with a reason he changed ECM calibration.

I guess this a good post showing everyone that not having a spare ECM to use with calibration altering can cause some headaches. Sucks for the guys or girls that only want a little more ,with in reason, power for mileage or towing power. I always retained my stock ECM for dealer repairs even tho my dealer was very friendly . I never pushed the issue with them and never expected them to do anything sneaky anyway. For instance if I went there with this problem like he has it would have been taken care of,not to rub it in,sorry guy.

Looks like they have voided his warranty. I think he's screwed. I would like to know why they scanned his ECM? Looking for DTC's only wouldn't show ECM changes. Looks like they were out to screw him. Some dealers have had problems with warranty claims ,perhaps this one has and why they are looking to cover their asses.

Pay attention boys and girls. Find a good dealer or take the appropriate per-cautions. The old adage you play you are gonna pay. Don't take advantage of your warranties. In this case he's getting raked ,I do feel for him.

Its part of what Gm has all dealer do now they must match up the last 10 calibration. Also just swapping the ECM will not save you they can read the TCM also and void you there from over factory RWTQ output. So you need a spare ECM and TCM.

WOW!!

I wasn't aware of that. GM won't be left in the dark anymore. Goes with the territory that the have built a contender in the performance world and wont be the pit crew mechanic for winning drag races and sled pulls. Can't say I blame them as it's very expensive to fix these trucks.

Wont be long that they will have security devices to discover ECM and TCM removal unless they already do. I guess for the average Joe plug and Play would be an alternative to ECM download calibrations. This has turned out to be a very informative thread, well at-least for me.

One of the reasons I haven't bought a new truck is all the emission crap. I seen a 2010 dually a few weeks back and was very impressed and was thinking about a 2011 . So unless I want to remain stock ,very hard to do, looks like I'll stick with my dinosaur. :D

They will see these added RWTQ power in the TCM from a plug and play also so still screwed there. Its best to think the way I do sometimes if you want to play you have to pay.

But in this guys case I think the dealer is screwing him over and he even paid for the extra warranty to cover his truck and never got repairs they said they did.

Only thing my truck has been in for was a wheel bearing and lights in the steering wheel and the heater controler and 4wd switch, and some odd and ends. When I blew it up I carried the cracked piston in and layed it on the service managers desk and he was whats that from I said my motor all he did was shuck his head like a father at me then I joked I needed it fixed thru them and laughed and told him it was already built and going back in already they still cover my truck and it has been in the shop with Gm's rep there and he was looking all over it with the big single and dual cp'3 and he oked the repairs nowing they were not from what I had done. I ended up having to give him a mag that the truck was in he wanted a copy after the service manager showed it to him but what ever works

A good relationship with your dealer is hard to beat. It's a win win when you play with'in the rules. The dealer retains a customer and you have a dealer that you can trust.

This guy is getting screwed ,it's really to bad. Hope something works out for him but I believe the worst has happened unfortunately.

The last 10 cals only applies to the LMM's (although I've heard rumors that the latest LBZ OS also has this.... the older ones do not... I KNOW the '6128 OS does not). As far as I know, the max Tq value only applies to the 09's with the latest TCM.

On one of the last TSB's I post it showed were they can. I also had were the dealer buddy thats a service manager gave me 2 injectors for my truck for me to swap and he was going to charge it to Gm got stuck with the injectors because they did not scan my truck for the cals.

From TSB #08-06-04-006G:

Code:
For RPOs LLY and LBZ only: Calibration ID Numbers and Verification Numbers from the Vehicle Information screen

• For RPO LMM only: Calibration ID Numbers and Verification Numbers from the Vehicle Information AND the Programming History screen.

• For RPO LMM only: Transmission Data screen containing the Max Transmission Calc Engine Torque parameter.

So basically, the ONLY way to tell on the LLY's & LBZ's without digging deeper into the code (if that would even reveal anything) is if the tuner was still installed. If it was returned 100% to stock, then the CVN's would match whatever GM says they should be.

Now, on the LMM's, you have the programming history that will screw you. You also have the TCM Max Engine Torque PID (Although I'm still not positive if that's for ALL LMM's or just the 09+ with the next gen TCM... I'll have to look at my buddy's 07 LMM).

Sounds to me like they voided the warranty becasue they THINK it was modded, but I doubt thay have any proof.... To make matters worse, it sounds like a crappy diagnosis, and since they blocked his warranty, he can't even get a second opinion at another dealer under warranty... The problem is IF it IS a bad HG, then they can inspect the tops of the pistons after they pull the head, and if they find the "telltale" star pattern, then you're pretty much screwed, and now have a truck that's in pieces....

On the LBZ they can read the Tq on the TCM.
Now on what you posted For RPOs LLY and LBZ only: Calibration ID Numbers and Verification Numbers from the Vehicle Information screen.
The service tech is told to take a screen shot of the tech2 and Gm will tell the dealer of the last 10 calibrations it had also its just alittle harder to do then the newer truck.
