You fellas have obviously never been screwed over by a crooked shop before. It happens, unfortunately more than you all think! A lot of times it's the dealership too!
Why don't you have the online retailer that sold it to you so cheap, install it? Or better yet, call them for some technical support on what they sold you....
I can't imagine a professional shop not wanting to install a box of parts someone brings them, in there $30k pickup, (which they know your going to hold them liable if anything goes wrong) and do it super cheap for you.....
If you want cheap I recommend Wal-Mart or McDonald's.
What's the world coming to.......

completely agree.
500 bucks to do the job sounds like a average deal to me. ATF isnt exactly cheap, nor are quality filters. then you still have to drop the VB and mod it!
I'm located in BC Canada, 10 min north of border above Bellingham.
My rant is mainly focused about local shops telling me completely different information then what everyone on here says about the product.
I didn't mean to come off arrogant in the first post, if that's how it sounded.
Fluid was $100, filters were $75, so $75 labour for the flush seems fine.
I was just expecting the VB mod to be a bit less, but everyone seems to think its about right, so maybe my idea of price was just too low to begin with.

It ain't cheap to do business... All of a sudden your 500 dollar job ain't so profitable to the shop owner after all of this. Lot of risk on his end to install your parts. Why call a second shop if price wasn't the issue at the first? After all, I thought you had a good relationship with the first guy?
You guys make it seem like all shops are honest working, working just above what they get parts for and all.... Which is far far from the truth.
I see nothing wrong with finding the piece for cheap and doing it yourself, if not, what the hell is a forum for? Just to show case what your wallet gets you at someone else's shop..?
I mean, come on. Sure support local business etc, but a blind drive to always using shops for stuff is stupid.

And taxes
And replacement tools (wear and tear)
And maintenance
And rent
I could think of more if need be!
I would walk away from any shop that offered to "flush" my Allison tranny, you can get that done at Iffy Lube if you think it is a good thing.. I also wouldn't buy my own parts for a shop to install unless I OK'd it with the shop first. Leads to a lot of finger pointing if anything goes wrong regardless of what caused it.

Don't forget the most important part any shop is in business. Profit! That has to be in there somewhere to keep things going
