Everyone thinks they're a super good driver until they are cruising along half day dreaming/not paying attention and a deer jumps out and they just slam on the brakes and swerve without thinking.

...

let's see you rolled your car near killing your nephew and have also taken out a deer.

Yes Ben lecture others on what they need , to be a good driver:thumb:

Hitting a deer is something to count as being a bad driver? I had one jump off a ledge onto the road in front of me... don't know anyone who could have avoided it. :hmm:

I would love to see a poll as to who has hit a deer in their life?

As far as the ABS, stability control, if you are tracking the car, yes it is better to have it disabled (cars not trucks here), threshold braking is to the next level when the ABS doesn't kick in too early. A well trained driver would 99% of the time be faster in a non nannied car. For daily driving, better to have the stuff, so when you impulse react by driving the brake pedal through the floorboard you don't just put flat spots in the tires, and increase your stopping distance. But I know eveyone considers themselves Mario Andretti.

I mean guys, these are trucks, not sport cars!

Hes my cousin you stupid worthless drunk. And if by "nearly killed" you mean a cut on his head from the glass, then yeah, I "nearly killed" him. The tire rolled off the rim and thats what put it sideways. The Beetle had no shocks, is taller than it is wide, and has a 90" wheelbase. Not to mention the pitman arm on it was indexed incorrectly, so the variable ratio setting on the box made it turn quicker left than it did right. Mario Andretti would have rolled it under the same circumstances.

As for the deer, who hasnt hit a deer. Honestly.

I have had formal advanced track/racing/driving schooling and experience, and I still completely disagree.

Give me a WELL DESIGNED stability control system that has a 'competition mode' (ie, a little bit liberal in when it intervenes) and Ill drive circles around you.

Everyone thinks they're a super good driver until they are cruising along half day dreaming/not paying attention and a deer jumps out and they just slam on the brakes and swerve without thinking.

Disabling it and saying you can have "better control" on your scooby is one thing, fine, I guess I believe you on that, but to say you can disable it in your truck and have even better control at high speed accident avoidance with a heavy load in the bed and/or a trailer is flat out laughable...im sorry no offense...

I think we are kind of talking about two different things here:

Stability control and ABS. I won't argue with you that taking out stability control is a good idea. However on cars (older) with only ABS I think there can be some advantages. Especially when playing on dirt (in my experience). And possibly some disadvantages of course. Being able to enable/disable ABS on the fly would be the best.

True, I agree with that. :)

Generally cars that have ONLY ABS are much more primitive systems/programming. They generally dont/cant pulse the brakes as accurately and as quickly as a "next gen" ABS system that has stability control integrated. The hardware and software is just so much more advanced.

As I said before, there are definitely some road conditions that ABS on our trucks is a PITA. loose gravel/dirt roads being one. Sometimes certain types of snow are a PITA as well. I put my ABS on a switch for this reason. For those 5% of road conditions that ABS is a PITA. Although like I said, when you disable the ABS you also lose dynamic brake proportioning and if you really stomp on the brakes at high speed when the converter is locked, it will stall the engine most of the time.

If you disconnect the front wheel speed sensors you will circumvent the torque converter locking/stalling engine situation...but you still wont have dynamic brake proportioning. So if you really want to disable the ABS, I would just disconnect the front wheel speed sensors. That way you wont risk stalling your engine if you lock up the wheels. ;)

The second day I had my truck a woman crossed the freeway in front of me and I hit the brakes, There was nothing else to do and no place to hide. The ABS and Stabletrack save my truck and the womans life. I was doing 80+. Now if you tell me you could have avoided that with your super driving skills, you can kiss my ass cause you're full of shit.

I want nothing to do with ABS disable would be nice to have no traction control like the older trucks however the stabilitrac is sweet. Guess its hard to have the best of all things. My truck since turning off the stabilitrac and doing its trans learn has been perfect. I think it might have just been doing the relearn with the traction control stuff on got it messed up shes all good now!

My traction control is my right foot. And the ABS on the trucks is annoying when its slightly slick or on gravel. Other than that it stops fairly well for a 7,000 lb vehicle.

If you want, you can try a lockup controller...that way you will be able to figure out whether its a control issue or a hydraulic issue.

You cant manually ground the TC for lock up with out burin up the solenoid. needs a pulse to it.

You can if you dont leave it on too long. I just grounded the solonoid, and figured out a way to take care of the failsafe with EFI. It works fine on my truck, but a PWN setup like Ben has will be the best. :)
