TQ lockup questions

I was wondering if my experience is isolated or the way the TCM on the trucks operates.

My truck is a 2010 with the new allison controller in it, which I do not know much about or if there is much difference compared to the older trucks. Here is my scenerio.

From a dead stop WOT truck hauls the mail and shifts smooth and firm and perfect.

With T/H on from a dead stop truck acts just like above.

With T/H off if you are in say 3rd and go WOT it will not lock the TQ or it 4th it will not lock the TQm until it hits 5th.

If you are on it in the above scenerio and click T/H on it still won't lock in 3rd and 4th till it hits 5th.

Shifts feel awesome at part throttle 2500 rpm any more and it has the feeling like its revving but not really truckking forward.

I was wondering if this is typical in how the controller acts and makes the trans work of if their is something different in its controlling or how things work.

If I roll an on ramp and go wot to accellerate my truck will rev out to about 3200 but not lock the tq till it shifts into 5th, do the same ramp with T/H on and it flat out gets snakey when rolling into it.

I also can't say my truck wants to break em loose cruising at 40 mph and going wot in regular mode, put it in T/H and it wants to light em.

Well did a taps reset tonight and went for a 75 km ride. Truck is shifting and pulling way better now. Never did do a taps reset after the trans build because it felt so good. Did the taps tonight and it feels awesome again, it was like before it was holding 3rd way to long now it pops into the next gear and carries on pulling. Either way if it stays like this I'll be super happy!

Wish you could just get it where you want and then force it to stop re-learning.:happy2:

they flat out will not consistently lockup with a suncoast converter, i dont have enough seat time with a precision but i have heard they dont have the same issue.

sometimes from a stop my truck will lock in 2nd like it should other times it wont lock until halfway through 3rd or even 4th

Lock up controller would help. The trans wont allow TC lockup until the slip speed falls under a certain rpm. I need to get an alli locker for mine.

I am wondering more now if some of this was self induced with doing some hard runs with the traction control on, maybe it screws up the way the trans shifts or learns or something. Seems like the more times I set the traction control off the worse it got. Seems happy now at least on the way home tonight. I'll report back after my drive to work tomorrow.

I maybe mistaken in that its not the TCC however I think it is but also that it was holding onto 3rd too long instead of upshifting. After the taps reset it does the shift like I feel it should and keeps on pullin at about 1/2 throttle maybe 2/3 throttle which is where I was not liking what it was doing. Also now in 4th if I floor it I know the TCC is locked. Weird how these things learn, just hope that its a fluke.

One other question is that there is an expansion joint where I do some runs, and almost always on the 3 - 4 shift it hits this and momentairly breakes the wheels loose causing a down shift and traction control situation, could this mess up this shifting learning process?

I've had trouble with the co pilot, figure i could sell it get an ally locker and pocket some money. I need to sell some things to help pay my dad back and that would be the first to go

I didn't know the LMMs had traction control

Exactly.... it really is fun when you ge a good lockup... but when it doesn't it sucks.

Well he does post just to hear himself talk...

while he may come across as arogant....atleast what he posts is true:)

I barely come on here anymore...yet seem to read more and more " this is what i think"

What Nick said is true, Lots of people had to deal with tq issues on LBZ+ trucks when they first got them. It was visible in logs, But we couldnt do anything about it untill EFI gave us the tables. There was a work around but it was more a bandaid.

As for the TC lock up......Braydens box is expensive, you get shitty customer service at best.It worked great on my truck untill i passed 700 HP. For most people that is good.Ive never ran a co -pilot so i cant comment.

Ben BT diesel would probably have the best fix for a DD JMHO

If you use a tech 2 to relean it will work better than just using EFI

they have more options than Efi grants us.
