When my pickup is aligned when leveled and then I dropped it for the track it always launched better. But when I got it aligned when it was lowered the launches at the track it had bad toe in. I came to think since it was aligned leveled then when I dropped it down to race it was towed out and pulled the wheels in straight when I launched. But when aligned lowered and launched lowered I had bad peigon during launches.

I've always thought a reason for the hop, mine always goes to the left when I leave hard, is because the front differential isn't locked in. And that as soon as you take off it locked the other wheel and pulls that direction. My front wheel drive car does the same thing until it locks both wheels in. I will be getting an air locker hopefully before summer is over and can give some input on what I find.

Exactly. If you look at any of the dedicated race trucks, their tires are not perfectly straight for road driving. They will be toed out some to take up what little slack or bending there may be and help the launch.

Now IMHO, it shouldn't be as bad as quinton is experiencing.

It helps to notice how much camber is also occuring on his launch, that is from hard parts moving. And no, I'm not talking about the tire, I'm talking about the wheel. The toe in is causing an amplified affect on the rest of your suspension geometry making things worse.

First thing I would do is out stock keys in and try a launch with someone videoing. If that don't work, I would suggest shocks next IF your 100% sure there is absolutely no slop in any part of the steering or suspension

I am a little doubtful he has aftermarket keys. My aftermarket keys with bolts out don't even come close to flat angles. Maybe different aftermarket keys…indexed differently, idk. I think if his angles are flat or near flat that wouldn't be the problem.

quinton- I know you said you did the pitman and idler…how old are they? Pretty recent?

That raises an excellent point. These trucks want to travel up. Even with stock keys and zero preload, If the truck is aligned with a somewhat lower stance that will affect where the toe ends up when the nose has climbed to where it wants to be.

They are actually the oldest part in the front end. Probably 3 years or so old.

i dont even know why i post my info anymore.....

best of luck quinton.

Why you say that? I am taking in everyone's opinions. First thing I'm gonna check is keys, I have adjustable ranchos already so only other option there would be QA1's. You give great info.

Today I will get the go pro out and set it on the ground to see what it does. If I can find a spot under the truck to mount it I will try that to.

I noticed most guys skipped over the info that McRat threw on the table to. But hey what does he know about going fast? :roflmao:

I have read everything every one has posted. Some guys are listening and some aren't. Idk how many times I've said I have adjustable shocks and my buddies truck is set up the exact same way, only difference is he has kryptonite kit. Same shocks, wheels, offset, tires. 4-6" lift kit dropped all the way down. Then some one says get adjustable shocks or it's my offset. Lol. But the more info the better. Only way to fix it is trial and error just like everything else.

I had a "few" sets of rims for Casper. To get it to launch straight and sane, I ended up using rims designed for Dodge. Most the GM-model suggested rims do not have enough backspace.

I don't like how they now measure wheels by offset in mm. It's backspace that limits how wide you can go. IIRC, you can go about 5" of backspace before hitting anything.

James had mentioned about steering parts, I dunno, 3 different posts, lol, and he said movement could be in any of them causing some issues.
Now not to be rude, but you said everything was good, only to mention pages into the thread that a couple of the main parts are several years old and not been changed out ;)

So Pat, what was the B.S and O.S that yielded the best results on Casper?

The whole B.S in inches and O.S in mm has always bugged me
on my 1500HD I ran some 20x10 wheels and the B.S was 5 3/4" with a +12mm O.S with 305/55/20 tires. The wheels were close Spank 8's
It looked pretty sik, I miss that truck, the good ol simple days...lol

Yes I read that he said that but just because they are a few years old doesn't mean they are worn out. I actually got under the truck yesterday when I took the pic and check everything out. Everything looked good.

Good place to start there I think. When mine were bad a few winters ago my truck would pull me all over the place in 4wd in the snow. Replaced with Moog and they already had some slop so I sent them in for a new set this winter.
