That's the filter I went with, here is a discount code that worked when I purchased my adapter for the Donaldson filter. Mine did go through some slight modifications, the 1/4 holes around the perimeter used for install/removal IMHO need to be a 1/4" deeper. Just not quite deep enough for a 1/4 drill bit for removal..

I'd move the sump back a few inches from center of tank. That way you avoid the sending unit all together. I'm running that exact sump. It's no prob sealing off the bolt holes.

Beans sump here. Love it. No leaks and easy to install.

As for filters that cat filter is only rated for around 80 gph. More then that you are loosing filtration. Also it DOES NOT have a water separator in it.

This is the filter I ran with mine when I had the airdog raptor. Its rated at around 100gph.

I may switch over to that filter you posted.

But from the research I did, it appeared the stock filter only flowed 40-50gph. So anything rated better than that, I'm doing ok.

And here's my luck. Filter and filter head showed up today. But the threaded filter fitting was tapped crooked. So of course the filter won't seal. FML

I guess i could chuck it up in my mill and machine the sealing surface at the same angle as the fitting.

It's actually not the fitting g being threaded crooked. When the fitting bottoms out, the edge it bottoms against is slightly crooked. If i unscrew the fitting 1 turn, the filter goes on perfect. I'll throw a copper crush washer on it.

Great, the sump I needed tomorrow never shipped because they were out of the mounting hardware and never bothered to tell me until I emailed them. I swear my luck is the absolute worst when ordering parts.

I do not use Cat filters. I prefer the Donaldson filters over the Cat filters for 3 simple reasons. While some of these may seem insignificant, I haven't seen any compelling evidence to change my stance.

1. I don't trust Cat's filter ratings. If you look at their website at a specific filter, they list them as "Advanced Efficiency" or some such for the filter rating. I'm sorry, but that doesn't mean squat to me. I just did a google search and found a Cat PDF document that says the "Advanced Efficiency" filters are rated "to remove more than 98% of particles 4 microns and larger". Where Donaldson states on their website that they use SAE J1985 as their test standard, and their filter is rated at 99% efficient at 3 microns.

2. Cat does not mention anywhere that their 1R-0750 is rated for water. Donaldson rates their P553203 as 95% efficient at catching both free and emulsified water and they provide the SAE test standard used to find that rating also. In all my searching, I have yet to even find a Cat filter that is rated for water to come anywhere close to that rating. It is my opinion that in a common rail fuel system, water is just as much of a danger to fuel system components as dirt.

3. This one is probably the most insignificant issue, but it is something I consider anyway. Cat is an equipment and engine manufacturer, not a filter designer/manufacturer. By contrast, Donaldson is a company that specializes in filtration. To me, that gives me just a little more faith in their ability to design and manufacture a quality filter.

Josh did you find anything about flow ratings for either filter? Is there really a limit on them? Is the Donaldson P553203 a direct cross for the cat filter?

The Donaldson P553203 is rated at 90 GPH, but finding info on a Cat filter is like pulling teeth. I'm sure it's out there somewhere, but I don't have the motivation to look for it. You lose efficiency when you exceed the flow rating of the filter, but I don't know by how much. I would guess 99.99% of people running these filters on a Duramax are coming anywhere close to exceeding the flow rating of the filters. I would bet that a FASS or AirDog pump probably flows about half of their rated flow through the filter as isntalled on a truck.
