I was looking at spools and could only find a yukon full spool for just over 1200 or a mini spool for around 300. The truck it would be going in would be around 650 rwhp and 6500lbs. would the mini spool along with 30 spline moser axles hold up? This truck would be a trailer queen and see NO street time.

On a side note, how is the spool for the 11.5" 1200ish and the one for the 10.5" 305.00? The look to be the same design and are roughly the same weight. Makes me start to wonder if a 10.5" could hold up to 700 horse at 6500lbs with a full spool and moser axles. 1000 bucks is a lot of money on a budget built puller.

I'm open to other options and thoughts at this point. I'm still in the planning phase. The only thing, is I'm not going to spend the money to get the 38 spline axles and spool. The class has open rearend so I'd put in a big rear before I go crazy with the aam.

The material in the spools differs. My spools start with $600 in material just for one spool.
Whats the tracks, your tire size and your HP? I have found stock axles to hold up better than mosers or 30 spline yukons. And i was told by Randys that they were no longer making the yukon spools for the 11.5"

the tracks are a good mix of midwestern black dirt and clay. The tires will be 35" bfg's all terrains. The horsepower should be just over 600.

I would run a minispool if thats all available. The gear's will be switched out to 4:11 or 4:56 at the same time so the rear will be torn apart either way.

The more I read about it, the more I want to try a 10.5 14 bolt. guys are using them in pullers and they are holding up. Plus the parts are waaaaay cheaper as is the initial buy in price.

I 10.5 inch ring gear will not hold up to the torque of our diesels. If you want to go cheap take your stock carrier out when you do the gear swap and weld up the spider gears. Its the po mans way of making a "spool". Your stock axles will be fine at that power level.

I'm not looking to totally cheap out but it seems like welding up the rear is the best option. I'm just trying to get a truck built and out on the track for this coming year. It just doesn't make sense to spend 3500 on a stock rear when the rules allow an open rear end and solid suspension. thank you for the advice

Do as Ecc said and weld it up. The price off the aftermarket spools are CRAZY!!!! It should not cost what it does if they were made out of titanium! A person can get a 40 spline spool for most cars for $200 to $300 depending on options. They are no different! I know they don't make as many but please it not hard with a cnc to whip them out in a hurry. The same cnc type of cnc makes them all. Jeff

As of now you cannot get the 38 splined yukon spool. If your allowed a big rear end i would weld it up and run stockers until you start breaking them, then just built a f106 for a fraction of the cost as the AAM. I run the 38spline yukons, ive broke a few of them on bad tracks, but as long as they keep replacing them for free, ill probably continue to run them until i go 3.0. I do like the axles and spool that Tony offer better due to be dual splined. If i knew that from the beginning i probably would of went with that style. The Proformance hybrid set up is pretty awesome if i had unlimited funds, light weight, and they gaurantee to replace anything you break. But its hard to spend that kind of money when you can build something bigger for cheaper.

I'm gonna try. I'm looking into parts cost and if I can make this happen. It just didn't work trying to use my everyday truck to run in the stock class. I spent too much time changing it from a street truck to a puller. Breaking it was the last straw. straight racing parts seem to be a lot cheaper than street/race stuff. It would be nice to build a truck with no regard to street manners.

Thanks for the reply. That's what I figured. I was really wanting a spool but I'll just save that money too and weld up the rear for now. I just really want to get a truck out on the track and will worry about building it as I go. I don't have the budget to build everything the first year but I would rather be out on the track having fun and learning than sitting at home wishing my truck was done

I'm going to run the moser axles because I already have them and they held up to a heavier truck at the same horsepower level on the same tracks.

If your going to weld one up, try to get one that is an open diff. The g-80 is not an ideal diff to weld up.

As of today as far as i know my mini spool has had zero failures... That cant be said for the ones made from scraps for I have seen them fail myself. My products are of the highest quality and here is a perfect example.. I was the first to offer 38 spline axles and spools, Randy himself purchased a set of my 38 spline axles and spool next day air. He stated he needed them for his personal truck ASAP. What would you know... a month later there for sale, never used... Six months later there selling 38 spline axles and spools. Randy's made them cheaper and sold them cheaper but they also have failures, Hell Rhall states he himself has had several axle failures. With all the kits i have sold in four years i have only had one shaft break and that was from a ring and pinion failure. There is a price for quality and i always want to have the best products out there. If a person dont want to pay the price for quality thats fine but im not going to sell junk.

all very good points and I don't think anyone has ever questioned the quality of the products you sell, or your customer service, or your internet presence, all of which are top notch. If I was limited to a stock rear and had the horsepower, your spool and axles would be going into my truck. A fellow puller has your setup and it has been bulletproof.

Does the mini spool install in place of the g80? How hard is it to install one? I would be having a shop install this and a gear change at the same time. I really liked the simplicity of a full spool just not the price.

Ive never broke Yukons 4340 axles, just the lower grade ones, ive twisted the 4340, but they will twist to a point, and still hold up. Klikkel axles will twist too. But i will say i still like the dual spline set up better. Also, Yukons kit looks nothing like the ones you sell Tony, im not sure what could have been copied unless he cut them open and took a material sample.

If you have unlimted funds for a stock driveline truck, properformance's rear end is the cream of the crop. That thing is insane, along with the price tag!

I hear ya. I spent a ton of time last year putting on stuff and taking it off into order to pull. And had a few break downs too. It would be nice to just have a trailer queen to get it setup and leave it all pulling season. Did they change the rules for what rearend you can run in altered this next year?
