single vs twins please help im not trying to start a flame war

he will get to play with my truck for a week so he can see whats its like to have twins.
For those of us who have a ran a bit at the track and seen typical Dmax trucks running twins, you have a good point there.
"Shop Trucks" often run good numbers, real ones aren't showing that it's a better drag mod than a big single. In fact, most big singles run faster than most twin trucks, and for less money. A normal twin truck doesn't run much faster than a stock turbo truck. Maybe $1000 per 0.10 seconds.
That is not advertising, nor wishful thinking, it's just reality.
So you are saying in reality if I was to buy a standard set of MPI twins I can only expect to net 0.40 second better 1/4 mile times then my current set up
Hm, good thread, very informative. my question is, do u guys still haul ok with a decent sized single? something like the HTT 66mm/71mm 13 or 16cm?
Dustin pulled my truck with his S475. said he didnt have a problem. also Winston pulled Dustins truck wit his S472.
What is the fastest single turbo, stock cp3, crew cab or extra cab "shop" truck or not? There have been very few in the 11's and most paid 3000-4500 for their turbo. Trent's truck went 11.6's, Rob's went 11.70, Russ' went 11.80 (I believe with traction issues) and Rob's is the only one you could consider a "Shop" truck since he owns a diesel company. There is no trickery with any of the 3. Russ and Rob both have the stock turbo twins. Figure twins run 5000 worse case for a stock turbo set (not anymore but for argument). I would say the worse case senario Pat would be right but most likely it's closer to 500.00/ .10 sec or less. Back up and consider what it cost to go from stock with a trans to a bigger single and the gain netted versus stock turbo to twins. It's a pretty similar cost for every .10 of a second. Then you figure in the fact that the egt gauge is almost useless on a stock cp3 truck and for those that use their trucks every day to tow and daily drive it starts looking better. Sure it cost a little more but there are a lot of bonus' for the cost too.
Apparently Pat still has a problem with me for some reason because I didn't have time to build him a set of twins years ago, plus he didn't want to haul the truck up here for me to do it, and he tries to down play what twins are capable of yet ran a set that PPE built to go the fastest he'd ever gone on the salt. The simple facts are they make as much or more power with a broader powerband then even a large single with lower egt's and much better spool up. If he or anyone else tries to dispute that they are full of it.

For all around driving, towing, & racing you can't beat the twins. A big single is great at the track and can probaly run the same number as some twins, it's everywhere else that the twins are going to be the best. My truck isn't a dedicated drag truck, it has to tow great, street drive well, and haul ass at the track. I went with twins for this reason alone.

Here's some reality. This is not a shop truck, its a "real truck". It has the tailgate and spare removed with spring clamps and lowered t-bars and D/Radials. It also has MPI standard twins, 40% tips and out of the box, unmodified tuning from Rob. Anybody can duplicate this.This is the third pass ever on this combination(7.59). It ran a 7.66 on its very first pass.
I have said this 3 times now - I know it wasn't pushing those twins to their potential and I wasn't trying to say that twins aren't worth it or that they don't perform well. I was saying that that Ken's argument wouldn't sell most people on twins. If pulling rules didn't prohibit it I would probably have twins on my truck. My S475 is about the biggest I would try to tow fairly heavy with - I could do an 366/480 setup and have it more streetable and as fast or faster but pulling rules don't allow it.
But seriously a stock turbo 2WD CCSB LMM with leather, sunroof, tailgate on, spare on and a bunch of extra added weight (bed rug, hard tonneau, 22s on the front, amp steps, class V hitch, subs and amp, ect) has gone 12.7s at 106 and 107. If it was 4WD it would easily be at 12.5 at that weight with the same tune. It's not a shop truck and I wasn't at the track with him.

Our pulling org just went from a 3.0 class to an unlimited single/3.2 twin class. Twins are catching on. But for me i will always have a big single.
One day we will be able to spool real turbos

I've run both twins and 17 different single chargers. I probably have more personal seat time than you racing/pulling these trucks. Strike that. I do.
A HTT dropped a 1/2 second off the stock charger with no other changes at all.
I raced against a few different twin trucks as well, same track, same day dating back 3 years. I'm not going to embarrass anyone by naming names.
So my opinion is based on what I've personally seen, and I know exactly what I've done to my trucks.
You have no idea what singles do, since you are a rookie with turning up big singles, or even running stock charger Dmaxes. You sell twins, that's your job.
So exactly how can you state what a big single does? Oh, that's right, you read the internet.
BTW - Many MPI twin customers bought twins because I recommended twins for their application. I just now got off the phone with somebody and I recommended them again, for their application.
So any silly idea you have that I'm trying to screw you because you wouldn't sell me twins is laughable. I'm primarily a hotrodder, not a salesman. I recommend parts based on their quality and how they perform, and from what I've seen on other trucks the quality on MPI is very good.
And whether or not you like it, a big single does indeed work for many different applications. If that interferes with your sales, there ain't a lot I can do about that.
