I currently run an s472 and love it. Switched from my Danville 72 to an s472 back in december and never looked back. James posted his s480 wheel and cover for sale so I said why not....i will be turning my s472 into the s480 next week. The plan is to pull the turbo Monday morning and drop it off at the shop then pick it up Tuesday and throw it back on.

Now I know this is completely useless in my application considering I have a stock engine and can't even hardly use the s472 to its potential. I just wanted to see what an s480 felt like to daily drive.

My truck is purely for joy...never tows a trailer or hauls anything so I'm not real concerned about spool up. The s472 suprised the crap out of me on how well it spooled. I think i will like the s480 just as much.

The compressor wheel and housing showed up today. This thing is huge...im so excited to put it on.

Here it is compared to a 67.7mm compressor wheel out of my old garrett gt4094vvt...i remember when I though that 68mm wheel was huge.

The cover was brown...I wasn't having none of that. Discovered it was orange underneath so I tried stripping the brown off but it was a pain so I just cleaned it up and went red. It will look good with my black piping.

That's it until tuesday. I can't wait to test it out.

Make sure the batteries are charged in your camera, don't want them to go dead before the turbo spools! Lol

Not hating but i don;t think that turbo is going to spool all that well man... Youre at what 4,000+ feet? My turbo (75mm) spools amazing at sea level at 6,000ft i literally could not spool it and i have a 2700 rpm stall converter. Look on the bring side there is always nitrous :D...

Glad everything got there in good shape . The orange under the brown wouldn't have been very nice, I sanded it pretty good to get the paint to stick on top. I though I painted it black till it dried and said "ah shit" lol

Yea i scuffed the orange pretty good trying to get the brown off.

I'm obviously not expecting a miracle on spool up with this turbo. Everyone said I would hate the s472 and that It wouldn't spool at my altitude. It spools better than my Danville 72 ever did. If it spools anything even close to the s472, I will be completely happy.

I brought the 80mm wheel to work so I can weigh it and then once I get the 72mm wheel off i will weigh that as well and see the difference. Unless someone already knows.

I'm basically doing this swap simply for fun. If I don't like the 80, I will put the 72mm wheel and cover back on.

According to mark, the back plate being machined to fit the 80mm exducer won't have any affect on the 72mm wheel if i put it back on.

Atleast that's what James told me mark told him.

If there was some misinformation or a misunderstanding on whether i can actually go back to the 72mm and that it indeed won't work...i wont be putting this 80mm wheel in.

Sorry guys, I talked myself out of doing the s480. It's just too pointless to do on a stock motor and I really like how the s472 is now. So I painted the s472 red and called it a day. I may still do the s480 conversion but not for a while.
