Mine have gone higher than that...1800+ (I think it depends on what different people call a race tune, and who did the tuning)....I think that you have to not be concerned with EGT's if you are thinking about race tunes.
Isn't that the whole point of a "race" tune? What are you willing to compromise on for speed?
I can say this...I could run a "hot" tow tune, towing a trailer (6800# Airstream), or with my slide in camper (3000#) and not have a problem when running most hills (say 6% grade or less at 70+mph). This tune was great, and was about as much as I would like to run with the truck loaded and the HTT did fine, and my EGT's were in the low 1400's. I also live down low, so the truck has never been run above probably 4000' of altitude.
If you want to have max power AND low EGT's, then you need to do something besides run a single, or be willing to turn down the fuel. If you want max power, turn up the fuel and live with the consequences....just my opinion
