The fact is, is that even well below zero * Fahrenheit, these trucks will start just fine on one battery.

I do believe it wears out the battery prematurely though (or faster than if the load was properly distributed between two batteries). After about 2 1/2 winters of daily sub-zero cold-starts, my single "5 year pro-rated" good-quality battery was done to the point where it would barely hold a charge overnight...

So I stopped being lazy and just mounted the second battery tray, and went back to two batteries, because I didnt want to be buying a new $125 battery every 2-3 years. Not to mention, when you are working on the truck etc with they key on/radio on engine off, you have much longer reserve capacity with two batteries.

ben

X2 on the above^^.. 2 years with a single battery North East climate and never once did it not start. I added a couple items that required a second battery this year so I used the GM frame mount and the FACTORY CABLES, (YES THEY DO REACH !! :D)

ive had it for over 5 years Ben, I took a season off.

What's your point its a great battery!

You need to get a optima pink top, that would suit you.:loser:

I just have to laugh and shake my head that you think you have me all figured out. You have never met me in real life, you have never spoken to me, you know me through a fking KEYBOARD on an INTERNET FORUM for crying out loud. You dont know my friends, you dont know what I did last weekend, you probably dont even know how old I am. I would literally pay money (not too much though) to know the root source of your animosity towards me. Was there one time when I did something and you suddenly turned and said "wow that ben really sucks!! Hes a moron!! From now on Im going to develop a creepy fetish of following him around, randomly sending him stupid harassing Private Messages, and otherwise being a dick to him for absolutely no reason". Is your girlfriend that boring and you ran out of smirnoff ice or something that you randomly feel the need to send me harassing PM's out of the blue?

And dont say "oh its because you're a loser" or "its because you suck", thats retarded because you've never even met me.

:roflmao: Funny stuff there! :roflmao:

Optima batteries are over rated. You do know there are only like three four battery manufactures that make auto batteries to the brands spec? If you don't you do now! :D

IMO I'd go interstate I run them in everything I own they have never let me down as a OEM replacement.

If your running a single and live in a freeze climate zone and if you don have a garage I'd look to a marine deep cycle quality battery . It's the cold starts with the glow plugs intake heater etc etc that draws your battery current down then with the cold oil you need a good reserve of voltage for cranking. That's why there's two batteries under the hood.

yeah 4 seasons, but how many times did it actually run during those 4 seasons?

Maybe not started everyday but it sits all winter without being charged and that battery has had probably 10 times more LONG cranking sessions than 90% of the people out there have with their trucks. It still holds a charge and starts fine on one battery.
I'm sold on the quality of that battery over an optima that's for sure!

who said anything about optimas??? Did you think I was an optima cheerleader because simon made some stupid comment about "getting my pink optimas in a bunch"??? I dont know where simon got the idea that I like optimas either.

oh wait, its because optimas suck, and I also suck...THATS where he got the idea, silly me. :)

Ive never owned an optima and I never will because countless friends of mine have had them and they were all junk.

I just run the "platinum" group 34/78 (dual post) generic batteries from advance auto...

Same, and when the three year warranty is close to being up they will magically become dead and I will take em back. ;)

That and just to add, the dual post setup is so much easier if you want to jump someone or hook a charger or whatever up.

About a half a dozen people commented on optima's being junk and that's what I was referring to. I could give a shit if you think a sweet potato battery is the best thing to have in your truck.

Total Power batteries are much better than Optima's. That was my point. I could care less what Simon's opinion of you is. This is a battery thread.

I run 800cca dual posts as well. Super handy! The Delco's just aren't any good anymore. I got 6 months out of one in my '07 replaced under warranty and 2 years later had to change them both out again.
