I like factory batteries. Usually outlast all the others. I hate how slow mine would start with 1 battery when it was set up for racing. Just made me think that it wouldn't take much draw and not start at all.

Ac delcos have went to crap also we quit selling them because of come backs within a year of a new battery. I wondered iF just messing with tuning with key on and lift pump running would cause a no start from a drained battery.

Really? Did you have them running direct from the starter there cuz the stock battery location is about the same distance from where Im talking about.

I just extended the factory cables and reused the factory clamps.

x13214627146 on Optima's being pieces of shit. I had two on my Dodge with 2 12"s and the subs would kill the truck driving down the road when they hit. WITH a bigger alternator.

So to extend the battery cables, all you need to do it cut the factory 10mm clamps, crimp/heat shrink new cables and run them to wherever? Im thinking about putting 2 cat 1000 CA batteries in the bed of the single cab.

Mark, you must be one lucky sob. I'm not to far from you guys and even with a brand new AC Delco battery mine will not start on a single battery, especially lately.

Did you get things going with your second battery in the bed?

Haven't had a chance to run a ground to the block but I did find a broker neg battery terminal on the rear battery, and so far it's made an improvement. I'll screw with it more this weekend.

From what Ive heard, LMM's are more picky about startup voltage than previous years.

The fact is, is that even well below zero * Fahrenheit, these trucks will start just fine on one battery.

I do believe it wears out the battery prematurely though (or faster than if the load was properly distributed between two batteries). After about 2 1/2 winters of daily sub-zero cold-starts, my single "5 year pro-rated" good-quality battery was done to the point where it would barely hold a charge overnight...

So I stopped being lazy and just mounted the second battery tray, and went back to two batteries, because I didnt want to be buying a new $125 battery every 2-3 years. Not to mention, when you are working on the truck etc with they key on/radio on engine off, you have much longer reserve capacity with two batteries.
