ahh, no biggie. I know exactly what your talking about. I like the new ideas people have hear.

rolling over, hitting walls and getting tossed from cars has made me thing of things i never would have thought about before. Tubing size, vehicle weight ect...

my truck in avatar has been in two major crashes and im still ok, thats why we put all the safety equipment in it. :thumb:

Hope it works out Trent, this could be helpful for a lot of guys if it works out. Just because it's cheaper doesn't mean it's not up to the task. I'm sure you did the research and wouldn't be putting an insufficient bar in the truck. Safety is like horsepower it shouldn't be skimped on. :)

My cage was custom made since it had to both comply with NHRA and SCTA rules. It wasn't cheap, but don't remember the price. I'm thinking 3k?

As far as safety goes, our #1 problem is the frame rails are inboard. The hoops have to go outward then up. This is the weakest area in the event of a side impact. Should you get hit in the side (or hit something in the side) the frame rail will not protect you like in a normal car. So I suggest at a minimum to add "rocker bars" which go from the lower end of the main hoop and connect to the lower end of the front hoop. Additional support for this problem can be a lower front/dash bar and a low bar on the main hoop. That will assist the hoops from just folding sideways in a side impact.

Due to the weight of the truck, to insure roof doesn't cave in, we put in diagonal supports for the main hoop that focused on the driver's side.

An engineer with a masters degree, a draftsman well versed in SolidWorks and BendTech Pro SE, and a professional fabricator who's been in the offroad business for 20 years.

Materials will be 1.5 / 1.75 .120 wall DOM or 1.5 inch Chromo .95/.120 it looks like.

k good thats all Im wondering. You made it sound like *you* were going to design/make them. I love Bend tech.

(just a little FYI though, there is no "bend tech pro SE". There is bend tech pro, and bend tech SE)

Correct.... that was a sleepy post while laying in bed on the iphone :thumb:

But yes... this is not me going in the shop with my hydro bender and ordering up 1000 feet of DOM and start bending to see what fits inside my truck :spit:

Trent Call Alstons Chassis works in Sacramento, and have them make you a copy of my cage. I took all the dimensions for our trucks (without interior). It could be made to work with interior if the back bars are a little longer across the top, and rear seat was moved foward about 2". Below are my 1/2 plate, frame to cage mounts that will be welded in.

the frame connections is what i was curious about. I like the 1/2 plate idea, and the Rec tubing works well too.

It would be cool if a truck cage "kit" came with teh frame extensions too.

ZR1160, how did you attatch your rear down bars?
Through cab, or back glass?

Is this for an extended cab? Is it a bar or a cage?
