After driving it 100 miles with a new stock tune TCM, it shifts beautiful. 1-2 still flairs a bit, but getting less and less. Converter locks top of 2nd gear, and shifts at 3250-3300rpm in every gear. 4-5 will flair some but also getting less and less as it's learning.
Honestly, I did not even think this would work. I swapped out the TCM it had for a known good one before(junkyard tcm) and still hung the shifts, but at the same time, we were messing with the TCM limiting tables to figure out where in the TCM the problem was. I never knew it could be somthing this little, but I tried to fight it for over a year. I never once limped the trans on 4-5, but locked it into 3rd many times when we were F'in with it. I remember calling Mike a week after I got the truck with a trans code that Mike said we hardly ever see, and my problems only got worse as I turned up the power.
With that being said, I am going to hold onto the GMC for the time being, drive it for a few weeks to work and see how it does, but I dont think illl have any issues as it it shifting better tonight than it ever has, even before I owned it.
Without this forum, knowing people in this sport and the help of everyone who has helped me out, I really do appreciate it, the people who have helped me throughout this problem are on a list thats too long to type, you know who you are
:thumb::thumb: I owe you guys.
I already started to remove the gauges in the GMC last night and said "hell lets give it one last shot, not like it will change".... boy was I wrong. Total 180* turn. I was done with this truck, wanted to give up, tuck my tail between my legs and wash my hands of it.
I have never once seen this issue come up in a truck. Ever, only heard about the people jumpstarting another truck, arcing the power and frying the TCM in the 6 speeds, but, even in that case, you would have codes and a trans that feels like complete crap; I had none of those, only hanging shifts with erratic converter lockup.
Gunna let the GMC stay in the garage for a few more years
I still would like to head to mikes in a few weeks to have him open the trans up and see if I/we caused any damage trying to "tune" this problem out.
People on here have dibbs on the single cab. I have put ~50 miles on it since bringing it home. Went form the dealer, to my house, and hasnt moved. PM me if your interested :thumb:
