Dodge just dropped out of Nascar.

AFAIK, they dropped out of import dragracing too. They were one of my customers. Big bucks invested in that 7 second FWD four cyl SRT-4.

And that brings up a solid point. A 2.4L single turbo FWD economy car would run with the fastest diesel drag vehicles. But after the Big Boys duked it out, there was nobody left to race. You aren't going to build a seven second econobox in your garage.

This is going to sound like sacrilege, but ...

If were going to do nothing but sled pulling with a diesel truck, I'd pick the 12v Cummins:

A) The existing events are often tailored for them.
B) Parts availability is better.
C) No computers.
D) A proven winner.

All of your reasons are the reasons why guys want to pull Duramax's.

Sled pulling is a deep south thing anyways, right up there with nascar and moonshine.

Agreed! I wouldn't think twice about building a duramax to compete against the god almighty 12 valves. People like Tim, Rob, Curtis, Tony, JD Dave, Wes and tons other that I'm leavin out have proven that they can be beat on the big stage. This also makes the winning even more rewardable in the end!! I love it when people tell me that the twelve valve rules sled pullin!!

[/RIGHT]8160]how did this turn into a sled pulling thread?

Pat talking about how he would buy a Cummins to pull cause a duramax is too hard to win with....:roflmao:

Its not really a sled pulling thread though. You won't see a comparison of manifolds and headers in the sled pulling thread, or people saying how since corvettes are produced with manifolds, they must be better. It's cause we know better, even though we are dumb hillbillys.

No. You miss the point. I have pulled with all three of our Dmaxes, and have seldom lost to a Cummins. Just like our Chevy's have never lost to a Viper, and they always have the HP advantage over us.

But all three Dmaxes are dual purpose street legal trucks that can tow and haul heavy. They are pickups.

However, if I had X dollars to build a class-specific competition only truck, I sure would not start with a $50,000 luxury pickup with a super-high-tech drivetrain.

I'd start with a POS Dodge (can be had $2500 all day long, running), gut it, put in a useless drivetrain that takes 10 minutes and 3 cans of ether to start, fill the block with concrete, etc. That is the cheapest way to make winning HP. It is as useless as a Kardashian, but it's got bang-for-the-buck.

With the Dmax, you can have your cake and eat it too. With bacon on top, of course.
