Pat talking about how he would buy a Cummins to pull cause a duramax is too hard to win with....:roflmao:

... since corvettes are produced with manifolds, they must be better. It's cause we know better, even though we are dumb hillbillys.

Yup, shorties are pointless. This is not news to anyone.

Could you believe that nothing but a change in an exhaust system could increase the HP of a N/A gas engine 50-100%? Been there done that back in the 1970's. Look up expansion chamber design, or find the Gordon Jennings book on it.

A properly designed exhaust system can actually create a partial vacuum in the cylinder before the intake valve opens. If you have a partial vacuum, it works like boost, it draws in more oxygen that the cylinder volume alone can. Ditto for intake manifolds that are designed to do improve volumetric efficiency.

If you are interested in how it works, I can explain it further.

Yep just like a 2 stroke engines with a tuned expansion chamber.

No. You miss the point. I have pulled with all three of our Dmaxes, and have seldom lost to a Cummins. Just like our Chevy's have never lost to a Viper, and they always have the HP advantage over us.

But all three Dmaxes are dual purpose street legal trucks that can tow and haul heavy. They are pickups.

However, if I had X dollars to build a class-specific competition only truck, I sure would not start with a $50,000 luxury pickup with a super-high-tech drivetrain.

I'd start with a POS Dodge (can be had $2500 all day long, running), gut it, put in a useless drivetrain that takes 10 minutes and 3 cans of ether to start, fill the block with concrete, etc. That is the cheapest way to make winning HP. It is as useless as a Kardashian, but it's got bang-for-the-buck.

With the Dmax, you can have your cake and eat it too. With bacon on top, of course.

You make it sound all so easy. The Cummins trucks that are winning aren't just thrown together. I've seen a lot of high dollar Cummins not run worth a crap also. If your a GM guy it's pretty hard to drive a Dodge no matter buy one. I do love bacon though.

I didn't say easy, I said cheap. Take a $50k truck, add $30,000 worth of modications. Take a $2k truck, and add $78,000 worth of modications.

Which is the best bet?

The $2.99 bacon at Stater Bros market ...

LOL Why can't I start with a used Duramax, there some kicking around for 7K and then I'd be able to spend 53k in mods. No one said you had to screw a new truck.

I prefer Canadian Bacon.
