"Reman Head"... What Would You Do?

Yikes, that thing is a melt down waiting to happen. When money gets tight some companies start making very poor choices.
If they let that head ship to a customer with its obvious defects, then how can you trust that the valves, seats, and guides are all okay?
I'd be looking for a full refund, and I would take my business elsewhere. Even though it will be a major inconvenience for you.

Well, you all did your own math. I'm not in the business of internet flaming.. In general, It seems they are a stand-up vendor with a lot of happy customers. I however, am not one of them.
Though this example does make me wonder about the integrity of the other head I purchased, it looked beautiful and has already been installed. Purchasing this paper weight has set me back almost 2 weeks already. I simply cannot afford another gasket and bolts nor the time to tear it all back down. Upon visual inspection of the other head, the valve seals and guides look new installed correctly.
I guess I may as well tell it:
It's definitely not pitting. There was obviously a foreign object introduced into the combustion chamber on the previous owner's vehicle.
The freeze plugs needed to be swapped to make the head a passenger side unit. They were out of plugs and waited a day shy of a week to notify me of that. Then they couldn't pull any of their techs away to remove the two plugs that were originally in the head. So they left them there and sent me the one 28mm plug they had received from their vendor.
My employer has called me this morning already, chewed me out, and notified me I'm now not getting paid until my truck is repaired and I can work. This is just getting horrid.

It was allseason/DirtyHookerDiesels. Just to go ahead and put that out there. He's been fair I guess but the attitudes of those I've been dealing with are just ridiculous! It's like I did something wrong by getting a crappy head sent to me. So far the only offers on the table from them are a call tag and a refund or they have a head that they rebuild 30k ago but has been re-decked (again) and need a grade D gasket (.010" over gasket). I mean where do I go from here? Does anyone else offer off the shelf reman heads? I've got to have one this week. I'm just weary and tired of bs at this point.
There's a thread on here 02 dually max? I think has heads on here for sale. Need to go to the machine shop but it's a head. And there is always the stealer but then you have to get valves and everything put in them so either way it's gonna hurt. Hate to hear this.
X3 for SoCal. The other posters here are so correct...this is going to be an inconvenience to you....BUT it is MORE important to do this right and take the correct steps to be done with them and get a full refund. I would take their other head off. They will not learn their lesson until it hits their pocketbook. Any less and they got away with one. Hold them to this, stay strong.
I agree with this take the other head off and get a FULL refund worth the price of a gasket and studs if needed! I wouldn't trust the head you have used after seeing this one. But that is me
Take the refund and go elsewhere like Socal it will be worth the piece of mind. Time is the essence I understand but you don't want to be down again anytime soon.
Holy crap! I had a glow plug go through the #1 cylinder, and the head looked better than that. Showed the photos to SoCal, and they said it probably wasn't salvageable, and if it was, they wouldn't recommend it anyway.

You need to get your money back from that head, and have the vendor pay return shipping. None of this is your fault, so you shouldn't be out a dime. Really, they should be responsible for getting you a workable head overnighted (especially after this long of a runaround), but I doubt they will.
Like everyone says, get a head from SoCal. It will be pricey (but it sounds like DHD was high to begin with, so maybe the same price?), but Guy has heads in stock ready to go. I bet he'll even overnight one to you if you ask.

Almost would have been better off getting a set of stage 1 heads from Guy originally if you're paying $1500 for the pair of heads...
This is exactly why I got a set of Stage 1 heads from Guy. I couldn't find a machine shop to do the basics (deck, valve job, pressure test) for less than $1500 or so. I figured it was worth the extra $600 to get Stage 1. Plus, now I get to run a high-lift cam!
Just curious what kind of shape were your heads in?
Mine needed all new guides in one head, one new valve to replace one that had a mysterious knick in it above the seal from somewhere, and then they just cleaned it up and checked for straightness all for under $1100 Canadian. I didn't think that was too bad.
