I just purchased a one owner grandpaw regular cab truck. I missed my white truck. Anyhow I need to do a tranny and I think I'm going to try it myself. I have never done a Allison but have been in many power glides and some 350 400 trannies. What special tools and we're should I get a kit from? I already have a suncoast conveter. I want another low 12 sec tow truck and play at the local track. Any help would be great. Thanks Jeff

4 hours away ?? I drove 8 hours both ways to George Alexander in the LLY and LMM and it was well worth it.
I also drove 8 hrs both ways to have mine done. Ended up wrong but I now know why. I would gladly drive the 1200+ miles one way out to Disneyland and see Mike. I did mine and it works. Is it built? No way, but it has clutches, hydraulic upgrades and a converter. Mike and these other guys actually know what they are doing and make it hold power...thus it is "built"

When my money tree blooms I'll be making a trip out to see mike...and disneyland...all 2400+ miles round trip

Think I'm gonna just order straight from the source. I will never be making the power yall are. I bought a chevy because my fords had all kinds of problems but no trans problems. I think this problem is cheaper. Lol

Ten grand in two transmissions got old though, so I bought a manual :thumb::driving:

And I don't know about "gladly" driving 1200 miles, but an ingle wood or Big Dipper Allison is pretty hard to beat. I'm sure if I get another auto Duramax i would build it again

It's only 1200 miles on a truck that will do 500k plus...plus I'd love to meet mike and let him work his magic

Ha, 4 hours! I would do that in a heartbeat. I've even thought of making a road trip out to Cali to see Mike. There are closer good options but Mike is always on helping people with all their problems and has answered many of my questions as well. It would also be a good reason to visit my uncle out there.

You sound like a newbie!! Try a search and haven't you see enough about DIY's and the Allison how you'll pay later for doing it yourself? LOL :roflmao:

It will be a piece of cake for you!

220k miles, 9 years, a built motor at one point, and 100's of 1/4 mile passes on my old school Suncoast IV kit so far. I have been easier on it in its "old age", but for being beat old Alto Reds bathed in cheap no-name Dexron III, I cant complain.

Some day when I have more time, Ill tear it down and post pics of what 200k++ mile Alto reds look like, but for now, F it run it.

Cant wait to see what the future holds with all of these awesome new clutches and lots of smart people behind them...so many options! :thumb:

This says to me that you have, haven't made any power to break anything! :D

But your right what is out there and been out there would work for almost everyone out there if they would just get over the I have to have the biggest baddest newest thing out there. Most wont get to that power level needed for these parts. These parts are for the maybe 10% out there.

I haven't went pack together yet with my Suncoast 6.3R kit. I have a new Precision ML Billet with Billet stator and 2300 stall sitting here. My intentions where to go back to compounds. I currently have a stock charger on and looks like it will have to be this way awhile. The truck has 35x12.50's and is lifted 6". Should I get another converter or will this one work out for me okay with stock charger in place? I also live @ 5k elevation and run up to 10k.

Then theres me. I doubt I'm much over 400HP to the wheels, and I FRIED a set of ALTO C2's(7 with a wave plate). Never felt any slipping or anything, pulled it down because my C4 piston let loose. Still have all of my other ALTO's in it, but went with GPZ's this time for the C2's.

I don't have time to drive too far. I can get the trans out in no time and put a new 1 back in. Would build it my self if I had time. Reading these forums have me on edge though. Can I just order 1 from you Mike? It sounds like you are the Godfather of the allison and you seems like you are a great guy even if you weren't a transmission man. Looks like you go above and beyond to make sure these guys are taken care of.
