I'd say the Scheid rail "runs right" , but it's on 6 cylinders, and I'd like to do it on 8 :)

I've never witnessed it run "right" three for three times. And unlike the Banks crew, they are pretty much jerks to other racers in the pits, unlike what is posted on the internet.

And if it truly has the reported 1800+ rwhp, it should be in the high to mid 5's. Big Daddy ran about 5.40 with ~2000rwhp back with old school tires in the 1960's.

Would a dual purpose truck be possible?? IDK, that is what I like about trucks/diesels, that they are versitile. I mean just a plain drag truck is fun to watch but really don't make much sense when you could spend half the money on a car/gasser and go just as fast.

Just a thought, since you guys are big into pulling already and know how it works I think the extra cubes would be the most beneficial in limited turbo size classes.

The 454 is going in a puller.

The 427 is going in a rail...pickup or something .. :)

I'm going to build a max bore /stroke motor after we run these two. 3.0 class usually has a 460 cube limit.

I've seen it run fast.. I doubt it's making 1800hp though...

So you think we should go for the rail then :D since Scheid is in the back yard?

What makes our trucks amazing is how fast you can make them and still use them as trucks.

But if your goal is a pure racecar, there is a reason rails are faster. Power to weight baby...

And it will probably be cheaper, easier to work on, and easier to get to the track (lighter and narrower).

That's exactly why I voted fuel only rail :D

Fun thread and thanks for sharing. I vote rail, I would love to see a dmax challenge the Schied dragster. I think Banks will get it running well this year and another one would be great. There are getting to be a lot of Prostreet trucks and a dual purpose truck doesn't make much sense to me. To much compromising to make a dual competition truck. I don't think it would be as successful as a purpose built truck for either pulling or drag racing.

There is a very interesting thread on CompD about a P pumped dmax that the builder states should make over 2200 hp on #2. If he get it running right that should be one hell of a pulling truck.

Brayden whatever you decide to build please keep us informed.

That's a 6.6 motor in the regular cab. That is Joe's truck. Tom (his father) is getting the big boy :)

We were happy with the way the truck turned out. We're going to squeeze 50-100 more hp out of it hopefully and keep it near the front of the pack. For a 2.6 truck it is pulling well. Matt Sparkman has the same motor less heads, it was the silver birch 2001 ex cab with Sparkman mfg on the side of the truck.

As far as the rail vs truck thing goes we'll have to see what this winter brings. We're as busy as ever.

I would start with regular cab short bed fiberglass side and nose truck. 2WD or 4WD would depend on funds.

Then take the money from the proceeds on winning and build a full on rail.

For wrenching, tunnel the cab with removable floor pan and slide the motor back 4" - 6". That should give good weight distribution:D
