Have had these thermostats in for 1450 miles, put my oil temp gauge in this morning, and ECT is between 167-170*, oil temp has seen 185* tops, usually sits ~180* Solid 10-15* drop unloaded with a bit cooler tstats.

Bumping this thread back up.

Anyone running these seen a drop in mpg? I've got about 1-2 mpg drop on the highway and I'm trying to figure out if running 160-165 isn't hot enough?

WOT doesn't have an mpg! Lol

I'm curious, don't really see how it could effect it. Living my stats, stays cool except towing, then it gets back to the 200-210 on a hot day

A Duramax with no load on it, seldom runs much hotter than 180.

And a thermostat does not increase engine cooling. If your engine runs under load at 210, the thermostats ain't going to change that much. In any case, it's oil temp that is the danger, and it runs hotter than the water, even though it has a water/oil heat exchanger.

The trick behind these thermostats is they open much, much faster than the stock ones do. We needed them for Bonneville, so we tested a whole bunch of different ones until we found the ones that open the fastest.

Im thinking about trying a set in my extended cab to see if it will help with the oil temp in the summer. With the 475 over stock compounds Ive been seeing oil temp of 210-220° in 80° weather for normal driving. I haven't gotten around to installing the fluidyne oil cooler yet

I was thinking that the Mishmoto "Hi Flo" thermostats were less restrictive compared to OEM size and offered more water / coolant to pass thru @ a quicker rate? I may be way off here but I too have noted cooler temps on running Mishmotos tstats. I totally agree with Mcrat on the theory of the tstat but for some reason they do run cooler @ engine temp and wot.
