Thanks for taking the time to make this thread it gave me the courage to start my motor swap last night. I just did another quick read through and it answered some of my questions.

you end up buying from Tony B.? what did ya go with?
I bought this motor. http://www.duramaxdiesels.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19902
Glad to hear it Dave! It was definitely an undertaking....

ROFL... My motor was at Guys over a year ago. What a fail :(

Things are easy to take a apart, putting them back to gether is hard.

Can someone tell me how tak e the fan off, I really have no idea. Plus there is a stupid shroud around the blades. I'm assuming you can;t take the shroud off untill after the fan comes off. Also do you really need that shroud when you put it back together? I'll have some more silly questions later.

Back on the first page we talk about the fan with mine. Easiest way is an air hammer with a chisel type bit on it and a glancing blow at the nut. Once its knocked loose you can spin it off by hand.

Leave the serpentine belt on until you get the fan off!

Shrouds lame, I ended up leaving my bottom half one off (on accident LOL )

i only run the two pieces of the should that are not attached to the motor so i belt changes are MUCH easier :)

I need to have another look at it, I'm on kid duty now so my truck will have to wait. Thanks

Got the fan off in 3 min. I used a 1" 7/8 wrench I've had for 20 years which is brand new and a breaker bar. Thanks guys.

No doubt I bought a set of 1" 1/2 -2" and I've only used them a few times but when you need them you really need them.

Matt do you have to put the shroud on the goes around your fan when you put it back together. That shroud makes life really difficult and will ditch it if i can. I imagine I have to keep it but want to know for sure.

I would keep it for a daily driver or for towing imo.
