Whenever I cold start my truck below 45*F it runs like crap and will leave a dense white/blue smoke trail. After it warms up it doesn't smoke at all and runs fine. It's been doing this the past 2 years.

03 LB7 109k on it
Still runnig the Original injectors
Oil level is perfect
Coolants full
No pressure in cooling system
No check engine light
The smoke smells like raw fuel

What do you guys think? Time for injectors? or something else?

Nope. I currently don't have anything capable of checking balance rates. I could get my hands on a tec2 if I needed to though

so it doesnt do it at all if the outside temp is above 45*? glow plug/s not heating the cylinder, causing the diesel to not combust at all?

any fuel in the oil?

I put new glow plugs in it last week. No improvement. I would think they are working because there seems to be a draw on the charging system when first started that isn't there after the engine is warm

check for fuel in your oil. what makes me think it isnt injectors is because it only does it when its cold outside. if it was injectors it would do it all the time. and for your sake i hope you havent been running diesel polluted oil for 2 years. bearings dont like that at all. anyway to see if all the glowplugs are functioning? glow plug controller could be f*ckd

If there was fuel in the oil i would think it would have been knocking or spun a bearing by now.

Are the glow plugs powered by batter voltage? I could see if they're receiving 12 volts when the key is turned on

I am pretty sure the glows receive more than 12v but I could be mistaken. 48v comes to mind. but regardless, it does this on a low pw/stock tune? if so then I would say it's the injectors wearing out. I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you are returning a lot of fuel or the balance rates are out of spec.

those arent bad at all jessie. I agree with Evan though too, Good idea to do a compression test just for peace of mind for next year:thumb:

Ive never checked the compression. I hope its ok. This really isn't the truck that I wanted to build the motor in.

When I started it after work today it smoked like a champ. Now that it's warmed up I can't see any smoke or smell raw fuel.

Mine bellowed white smoke on start up when cold after I melted the pistons&Rings. Still ran fine and the smoke cleared up after the motor got up to operating temp. Hopefully its something minor in your case;)
