Went down to the machine shop yesterday and dropped everything off. Hopefully have it back in hand in 2 weeks based on their time line. Monday I'll be calling to see if the block can be honed only and let them know I need the Pistons cut .010 off the top as well (forgot to tell them that Friday)

Well last week I talked with the machine shop and the bad spot would not clean up. They were at the service limit of the block and beyond the ptw clearance I'd want.

So went on the search for a block and couldn't come up with a good one. Finally thought I found one and off to the machine shop I went today (mind you, it's 2 hours from my shop one way lol). They take one look at the worse of the main caps and feel a little ridge I didn't feel. Threw a cap on and checked bore. Sure enough, a main tried to start to spin and screwed up the cap and block.

So it was decided to use the original block, bore it .020 over and run fingers pistons. Hopefully she will be ready to rock soon!

Trans lines and the shifter shaft on the side of the Trans is pissing Trans fluid out of it so get to figure out how to fix that as well.

Assuming that comment pertains to the selector shaft seal, I have the tool to change the seal with the shaft in place. Real easy to change with the tool. You're welcome to borrow it if you'd like. If that's not what you were referring to, I can shut up now.

Are you using forged?!if so what was the limit or the service limit they didn't like? And ptw

Being its a street truck im going to assume it's gettnng cast ovals..

Ptw would have been to loose on the one cyl with the cracked piston with stock lb7 pistons (I assume)

No we are using cast. the service limit i used is 4.059. stock is 4.0551-4.0557. They were at the 4.059 limit and still needed to go another .001, possilby .002 to get it to clean up. had we gone with forged pistons, i wouldnt be worried but concidering we were going to used stock used LB7 pistons with 100k on them, those alone would have been at the low end or under the 4.0531. we never measured them though cause even if they werent, the block hone would have put us at .007-.008 ptw clearance. more than i would want.

you would be correct! i ordered the tool already cause im sure his wont be the only one i do. i think mine was just starting to weep last i looked so ill probably do mine at some point and since they are the same for all GM, it will come in handy. thanks for the offer though!

Why are you going with "high temp" thermostats?

He was all stock engine wise with egr delete, max effort tuning and built Trans. And a little shot of nitrous. He floggs the damn thing everywhere so it was just a matter of time before she popped. Blew number 4 piston. Didn't help I found the cold side tube that goes into the y-bridge had blown both its o rings in half.

We both know the lb7 pistons ain't fool proof and Levi can break a damn anvil but we all got budgets and with my build holding fine as well as others from years back, we felt they would be a good choice for the power level. If he really wanted to push hp beyond 800 and run more fuel than air, I would be pushing him to do fingers pistons for sure. The LB7 pistons I have here look to be in great shape and are low miles. We will be running my theory of keeping uS low with larger injectors, smart timing and more air then fuel to keep egt's nice to make them hold. So far, it works but I have no proof behind it

Anyhow, just waiting on rods to show up and off to machine shop we go! Shitty diapers make great packing stuffing lol

Not sure why they are listed that way. They are just 180/185 t stats. He lives at 7000ft and likes to have heat in the truck lol

Ah. Makes sense. I've installed there low temperature thermostats before, just wasn't sure if there was a theory or reason behind going high temp.

Heat is always nice to have on a chilly day. Lol
