So I am planning my motor build for next winter and have a question about cams.

Of course I am going with a keyed cam but how much HP can a stock cam make? What I am looking for is a DD and a weekend warrior pulling. I know that cams can change the way a turbo lights but what can a stock cam do?

Thanks :D

stock cams have went 9 sec 1/4 miles :D. FWIW i think cams in our engines are effiecient for what most of us do. Until you dedicaite a truck for sled pulling or drag racing then you dont really need a cam. I would love to change my cam profile on my engine build but haven't seen enough gains in a off the shelf cam to proof to me i need something different. I know rob hall and others have seen a nice increase in power from cams but they would have to chime in. Sorry for the bad spelling im drunk lol

There are other benefits to cams besides peak power , but in a nut shell IMOP you need to decide what RPM you expect to run before a cam can be decided on , if you plan to stay under 4k and have a decent charger a mild cam would work good , if you plan to go higher a bigger cam could net you some decent gains , IMOP the cam and charger both have affect on where peak power will be made . The guys who have made big power on the stock stuff like myself are usually running big compounds or spray , big boost or spray can really help over come flow limitations , but if your running a single and expect big power I dont think the stocker will cut it .

Well it will be a solid 800hp truck but that's about it. I don't plan on going for a 1000hp. It will be a single charger S472 at the biggest.
