Band aid or not I'm much morre comfortable with my oil pressure now and the oil doesn't break down anywhere near as fast, the second turbo must add a lot of heat to the oil so you can either run a heavier better oil or add another oil cooler

you might be seeing higher pressures but i think its still breaking down just as fast from excessive temps.... probably to the point that the film on bearings etc isnt sufficient at the high temps

I see what you're saying, the 76 oil after 1 week of driving was dropping to 18psi at idle and even lowerif it got warm (210 ect) but the first couple days was holding 25, the penzoil pressure seems to be much more consistant. Maybe I'll send it out for analysis

one thing i noticed reading through this is a lot of you guys have higher mileage trucks, still using the original oil cooler??

also if you are thinking that the second turbo is using too much oil you could always consider going ball bearing. they use nearly no oil.

On the motor i will be assembling in a couple weeks for my truck i decided not to chance it and went ahead and got a new oil cooler and a new oil pump. I was also going to have an oil temp gauge this time around. This time i will also be running a ball bearing high pressure and more than likely low pressure turbo also.

i have 260k original oil cooler, but i dont think thats teh issue... the bb turbo's run oil restrictors typically dont they?

I run a GT4202R low pressure turbo with a .040" restrictor (30 psi @ the big charger with truck cold oil at 80 psi), oil supply is teed off of the factory charger supply. Note: this turbo is water cooled as well.

I pulled the wife's Trailblazer SS down from Fairbanks to Seattle to Salmon Id. to Rexburg, with Lots of extra fuel, spare tires, 10,000# trailer, & enough tools to rebuild anything on the side of the road. I'm guessing 10-11K ish. 40-75* temperatures, Rotella Syn. 5-40, 40psi oil pressure cruising 5th gear, 15# boost, Egt. 700-900*, water temp 210*. My oil pressure has never dropped below 40#, pulled lost trail pass at 55 22# boost 1050* egg's. Truck has 72,000 miles.

Not sure if any of that is useful or not... I just noticed I run thinner oil than most for the cold climate Im in but still hold the same oil pressure. Maybe the water cooled low oil pressure ball bearing turbo is helping, maybe not? I need to install a oil temp gauge now to satisfy my own curiosity.

i had considered buying the PPE cooler delete plates and using one of our 6.0 oil coolers but just wanted to keep it simple for now.

I've never seen my oil pressure drop in mine from pulling. Heaviest I pulled was a skid loader late last summer and had my air on. Engine temp stayed below the 210 mark and oil pressure never dropped. Both my turbos have blankets, hot pipe wrapped all the way to the waste gate, and my down pipe is coated and also wrapped to where it goes under the truck. At 3000 miles i always check my oil and it never uses a drop and still has a honey color to it. I do change it at 5000 miles at the most. I also drive like a grandma so Im sure that helps lol.

Bumping this thread, anyone have pics of their oil cooler? It was 117* yesterday, and I dont want to know my oil temps...

Only thing stopping me from ordering Bee Killers kit, is 1) Price, and 2) cooler looks to not have a drain valve in it to drain the old oil..

I also do not want to delete the factory cooler with the PPE kit, I want the OE cooler, and a oil to air cooler in the front stack..
;)
