Picked up this gem for a steal. #4 has a piston issue but the truck is super clean. 04 Cali Lb7. Haven't decided if I'm going to lly swap or go federal lb7 with SAC injectors.

Anyone know the difference from federal to cali heads?

Federal LB7 heads have different intake runner design than the Cali heads. Supposedly the Cali heads flow less. I've never had any trouble with the Cali heads, so unless you need to pull the heads for some other reason, I would leave them.

Externally, everything bolts up the same, and if you don't remove the intake clamshells, you can't see a difference between them.

I will have to pull the head on the drivers side anyway. It either has a cracked or melted piston. Good to know they aren't much different and I can just get rid of the egr with federal parts

Got to friends shop at 8am and we swapped steering gear box, hydroboost, did front brake pads/rotors, and finished up with swapping both idler pulleys, new belt, and new tensioner, all done by 12 for lunch :D

Drove up a half hour or so to parents to get my pup and about four or so lights out, lost power steering. That was a fun time limping it to their house, stupid PS pump wanted to join the fun of the day so it got replaced.

Long, expensive day to say the least. But, truck stops better at least? :woott:

checked front end over, found pitman arm nut backed off (second time it did this to me), tighten it up, everything else was good. Checked engine and trans oil level, topped off coolant, cleaned the air filter (man this 7 layer filter does great!), changed t-case oil, adjusted the spare tire to keep from rubbing on the diff, and cleaned the interior out.

all ready for my dunes trip this weekend :D

What air filter do you run? I'm looking for something that does a bit better than my current aFe 24-91039.

this one

aFe 72-90049

its 7 layers and the biggest filter i can fit in my location. had it for a year and a half now. inside of the intake track is clean as a whistle. i seem to wash it every 6 months and its black when i do, so about every 2500-3k miles is when it gets a wash. way better than the old AFE i had before and the K&N i had before that.

What style of AFE were you running before James? I run the white synthetic ones with an outerwears. Seems to let a little dust through every now and then.

the one trent had in his kit way back when. it was an AFE 5 layer oiled filter. Outerwears are great for knocking out the big stuff from sticking to the filter but dont really do much else. i only run an outerwear on my sand car to keep the bigger grains from plugging up the filter quickly. i do not like dry filters what so ever unless it is a stock paper filter.

I gotcha. I just don't like dealing with the filter oil. We don't have the dust around here like you do. I like the outerwears for keeping the bugs from getting jammed into the pleats.
