Do you even need the alternator on there Jim?

Were running 3 optima deep cycles that we charge after each event and after the typical event we see them down around 70%-80% charge or so. That's starting a big cube motor 2-3 times and running the water injection pump which takes the most juice, the fuel pump which also takes a lot, both intercooler pumps and an electric water pump.

I know our primitive stuff is a lot less sensitive to voltage than the computers are though. But I don't think you'd have a problem keeping voltage up.

I think it would be risky, plus running 3 batterys seems harder and more pricey than an alternator. Plus if u had 2 or more hooks at one pull our electronics plus all the pumps and what not would drag it down a lot I would think.

Well here is a few pictures of the motor build that has taken place and we are a weekend away from starting it up hopefully! We are building for a 2.6 class.

I don't know what the computers draw really.

I know alot of the duramax motors start alot quicker and easier than our motor.

I don't really have accurate numbers on the amount of juice we draw in a pull due to the lack of track time we've had.

I think you would definatley want enough to run two hooks without charging. If you have multiple events/classes you may need to.bring the generator which also adds cost.

Its not so much the cost. Its one less thing to go wrong. One less thing the belt is tied to that is trying to drive your cp3.

Wonder if you could hook up a meter to record power usage at an event.

Were slowly getting the tractor ready. Haven't had anytime. Never really got a winter inly like 20" of snow and none ever stayrd longer than a day, and we've been busy in fields. The transmission should be about done. Getting some faster gears. Looking for some better tires right now with less bite and more of a 45* bar for less hop. Still gotta get the new Turbo kn there too.

I thought about just putting a small gen/inverter mounted to the weight box. Then getting rid of the alternator. With the motor for the hyd steering, motor fan & elec water pump you would draw a battery down fast. If you have a tow vehicle for the pits you may get away with it tho.

I have tested a fix for your concerns and it worked awesome on the Cummins killer. Give me a call 989-550-1288. Im telling you it is a perfect set-up and it will be on DH XXX.

Still working on getting the charger where it needs to be. Actually got another charger enroute now to do some testing. Big thanks to one of the guys in my sig for offering it up. ;)

Here are a couple of update pics. Rick Lance sent me some of his forward facing extreme headers, as well as a box of fab parts to finish the up pipes. Thanks again Rick everything worked out great. I will have some picks of the up pipes in a day or two when I am done welding.
