if he has a 05 5 speed in the truckthen why is he running a 6speed tcm tune in the truck. i have to think this cant be good

there is no possible way you can load a 6-speed tune into a 5-speed TCM. Its like trying to install a windows program on a mac.

(ok yes I know with the newest intel-based macs you can run windows, but you get the point)

so i guess Suncoast wants us to drop the pan and check C2 clutches.....however, i am not too hot on incurring any additional costs with this tranny unless i am upgrading it somehow......hmmmmmm...i guess i really need to call them back and talk to john about my warranty.....

I don't really know about this....it doesn't explain the tap shift buttons not working....what do ya'll think???

Pull the lower dash off, pull the lower steering column cover off, carefully remove the boot for the shifter and inspect the wires from the column shifter right where they meet the steering column.

There are two wires, frequent shifting if the truck from D to R/P can cause the wires to stress and break.

If they break you will lose OD/Lockout and T/H engagement.

I have fixed a dozen trucks with this same problem.

I would bet you have a break in the wiring as the DVT bypasses the T/H button and OD/Lockout function directly.

;)

Also check all fuses even if they look good with a meter or test lamp.

I have had the TH wire fixed before because when it broke the light wouldnt even come on and i had no TH, but this time the lights come on and i have no function......i was just in there to replace the ignition and i checked my fix and it looks good, we rerouted it and soldered it and shrink-wrapped it when we fixed it the first time....next i think i will be checking the connectors for the TCM and making sure all the pins and receptacles are proper...then i gotta figure out why my wheel speed sensor code still comes up even thought the ABS light is now off and i soldered the wires back together.....maybe it pulled the wires from sensor a bit i dunno...

If the light is coming on, its a TCM problem. My bet is something is actually messed up inside the TCM.

Because on 03+ trucks the tow/haul button wiring goes into the BCM, not the TCM. When you press the tow/haul button quickly, the BCM acknowledges this and sends both a signal to the instrument cluster to turn on the tow/haul light, and a data signal to the TCM to engage tow/haul mode.

If you hold the button for more than a second, the BCM recognizes this and sends (big surprise) a data signal to the IPC to turn on the OD lockout light and a data signal to the TCM to lock out OD.

The TCM is obviously getting a class 2 data signal because your PRND321 display works, trans temp gauge works, and its not throwing any codes.

Thus my educated guess that its a problem with the TCM itself, NOT any wiring in your truck.

Learn something new everyday - I didn't know we could do that. :)

Or is that just on the 5speed alli?

tow/haul is engaged the same way on the 6-speed allison (with a data signal from the BCM) but obviously you guys dont have overdrive lockout because you have the gee-whiz tap-shift feature.

However the tap-shift signal is on a discrete wire that goes directly from the shifter straight to the TCM. The TCM then sends a data signal back to the instrument cluster telling it to display the "6 5 (4) 3 2 1" in the driver info center.

however this problem is occuring with both my stock TCM and the 6 speed TCM.....2 separate TCMs .......could the BCM or somewhere in between not be relaying the signal to the TCM? or could it be the TCM pin could just be recessed from pulling the connectors on and off so many times? i will check the connectors after class.

I wish it were obvious , but thanks for clarifying - makes sense. I wasn't thinking in terms of using tap shift. :D

Sorry for the hijack - back on topic. Good luck Juddski88.

ohhhh boooyy.....well it looks to be leaking from between the tailshaft housing and the main housing from all around....checked the TCM pins and all look good....checked all connections to transmission...all look good, the only other things i haven't done are try the old NSBU and finish troubleshooting the TH and OD lockout buttons not functioning

i just dont understand how it could just spontaneously happen to 2 different tcm's one is a 6 speed locked by suncoast too...the other is a stock tune 5 speed both have had no troubles until that fateful day and we hadn't even swapped them that day...i am baffled...i am looking for someone within reasonable trailering distance that is an authorized suncoast dealer so that i can have them work with me and still uphold my warranty

ok mike or george, if either are reading, when i get this thing opened up, and i have smoked clutches, should i just replace them and close it back up or should i upgrade it in any way? it is a suncoast built stage 5 with 1058 and 6th gear conversion, deep pan, transfer case brace, blahblahblah.....no billet parts inside, no "new ideas" per-say

Why are you working on a SC-V with a full warranty ???

Ask for a SC Dealer that will work on your warrantied transmission and get it properly diagnosed and fixed.

Where do you stand with SC at this point? Do they want yo to open it? Are you capable of diagnosing the problem if and when you do open it up. If the problem is internal we need to find out why it failed. Something caused it. Clutches won't just go bad. Talk to Ron at SC and find out what he wants to do first.
