so last week i was cruising down the road on Tony's tune 2 with the 6 speed tcm in and went to pass someone and limped the tranny Suncoast stage 5 with 1058 converter.....only in for 7 months....and it came up with these codes
P0734 EPA/EPA Pending/MP
P0700 EPA/EPA Pending/MP

so i cleared them and it was fine for a few miles then whenever it would shift into 3rd 0r 4th it would limp.....so i have been driving it around occasionally to try and diagnose the problem and constantly stopping to clear the codes...put the 5 speed tcm in today and it was a bit better but still does the same thing.....mind you all of this happens between 10%-90% throttle....I bought a new ignition switch to try and get my Shift range inhibited message to stop once in a while when i put it in 4lo....so we'll see if that makes any difference...but i think it may be the converter is shot....it has never been drag raced and has only 12 or so hooks on it with less than 500 rwhp....there are no noises/vibrations out of ordinary until it slams once in a while trying 4th gear then limps....the TH and OD off buttons light up but dont do anything, they dont work.

the converter doesnt lock whatsoever in any gear unless i use DVT to manually lock the TCC i was doing 90+ mph and it was only turning 2k rpms. sometimes when it shifts just before it limps it hangs up extra long and winds up to 4k rpms then limps.

I have logged it twice and can send any willing helpful mind the files to help me diagnose this freak problem.....Thanks..

ok i guess sometimes a bad speed sensor can cause something like this...i have a wheel speed sensor frequency error code i have had for months and a ripped apart front passenger side wheel speed sensor wire that got caught in the tire setting the code close in proximity to the time of the shifting problem starting.....could either of these play a role?

front wheel speed sensor problem wont mess up the trans; its only used for ABS

thats what i thought but wasnt so sure.....this combination of symptoms and codes really confused me....in about an hour we'll see once we get the wheel speed sensor wire spliced and repaired

You may be correct but, a couple of years ago we limped Ralphs truck on my hoist ( 2WD ) running the rear wheels off the ground while throwing wheel sensor code.

ahh perhaps the 6-speed trucks are different because of the "traction control" feature?? That would require the TCM to look at a difference of front/rear wheel speed sensors. Thats the only thing I can think of..

hmmm interesting! I take back what I said about the wheel speed sensor, I might look through SI to see if I can dig up anything, but with these complicated trucks anything is possible...like I never in a million years would have thought your radio would lock up with only an ECM swap.

Mike do you remember what code the TCM threw when it limped? Or was it just a code in the ABS module? Was it BOTH front and rear wheel speed sensors or only front wheel speed sensor codes??

Think it was P0500. Problem cured itself the first 10 feet out of my driveway. I could not clear the code while the truck was on my hoist.

well we installed new ignition switch and rewired the front wheel speed sensor.....it still limped...so i reset TAPS for 2-3 and 3-4 and it still did it.....so i called Suncoast and George is supposed to be calling back after talking to his computer guy....the ABS light is off now but i still pull up the code for front wheel speed sensor error.......i checked the fluid and it looks pretty damn good (amsoil torque drive) not burnt or discolored.

i am still stumped on the TH and OD button not functioning....i don't see how it could be related....but maybe if i find out why they aren't working..i find the problem.....any ideas?

This might sound too simple but often overlooked and causes lots of wierd @ss problems.

Check all the ground conections! A bad ground can wreck havoc on proper diagnosis. Im a technician for BMW's 5 days a week, you think the electrical on GM trucks is bad???
Pffft!:D Ground problems have kicked my @ss up and down the street before!

Just a thought!

it does have a 6 speed conversion kit in it.....the tranny was shipped to me totally built and i haven't really had an issue with it until i went to go pass someone last week (as usual) and it hung up real bad in 3rd and slammed 4th and limped.....i was reading the gm diagnosis sheets for these codes and after what i have already done it gets expensive from here...thats why i am waiting on a call from suncoast before i do anything else....i know its not a tcm issue..since it happens with both tcms...and i know its not the NSBU or Ignition...and i have pretty much ruled out TCC solonoid since i can engage it manually through DVT....however, the TH button and OD button dont work....also, as a result of the codes it automatically inhibits TCC engagement....i was driving it around last night and i was finally able to feather is into 4th and into 5th with the converter locking on its own....it took a careful foot but i did it ....once......

could it be a APPS? i have heard a few stories involving this....could a trim valve stick without throwing a code? I know nothing really about transmissions and valve bodies and such so i have no idea....

Thanks guys.
