This is the main reason DTS does not post on this forum! Sad to because David is very smart when it comes to this Duramax/Allison game! I believe they are the shop to take the Allison to the next level.

Thanks for the input on the new clutches, too bad you had to stay quiet about it due to this type of response.

How many sets of kneepads have you gone through?

Little back ground story.

Back in February I contacted Mike about building 2 transmissions and refreshing mine with his new TC. We had a few long discussions about what was to be done and even got off on a few tangents. After the second conversation we set a date and I was going to be bringing him 3 transmissions to work on. Mine, Troy's and Josh's.

I talked to Mike about a week before the Desert Diesel Nationals and he said he had a few new cluthes he was testing or going to test and that we would talk about it at the races, as they might be a good candidate for the builds. Met up with him and introduced him to Troy and Josh (the guys forking over the money for full builds), and he acted like he could care less.

I was confused by his overall attitude towards me and 2 soon to be costomers. This was not the guy I had talked to for a few hours on the phone. When your spending $4k plus you like to know what your spending the money on and Troy and Josh were not getting any good details. Mike kinda him-hawed around about new clutches, no specifics (time or cost) and that he would have to get back with me. The biggest shocker was when he asked me why am I even having my trans gone through if its working great?!?! WTF? Btw, he never got back to me.

After that encounter I knew something was up. What? I dont know but it wasn't kosher!

Called David and he was all about doing the work. He had just come out with a new street trans that would be perfect for the guys and also had a few new options for me. He mentioned the new Reybestos clutches but didnt say if they were good or bad. Just that he had them and they were in testing.

We went with David on both builds and the results were great.

Now my question to Mike is, why is a few weeks good enough for you to test out new clutches but not for David? If you had a hand in making them wouldnt you push them rather than bash them and say there is no way to tell if they work yet? What 1000+ hp trucks are you testing them in and spending you own time and money on tearing them down to check for defects or longevity?

Last I checked David never once said to stop everything and that everyone needs to put these clutches in your truck. You seem to be looking for trouble for no apparent reason.

This will open up a can of worms but I'm just curious as to why your acting the way you are.

Wow!!

Maybe Mike didn't fill like they had been tested enough and didn't fill good about having someone run them yet. He will not lead anyone in the wrong direction. I will go out on a limb and say if anyone say's there trannies hold up at 1000 hp for more than a handfull of passes THERE NOT TELLING THE TRUTH!

Maybe Jays Trans that George built 4 years ago is a freak then ;) he ran it for 2 seasons in a 1100HP ccsb. Not sure if he refreshed it after his first broken crank or not...mightve been 3 seasons..

Just an FYI DMAXMafia , i have tested for mike, for the right guy he does do this on his "own dime" just so you know!!! "The right guy" is one goes to the track MORE than 1 time a month or less.. IMO 50-75 hard passes amount to more than acouple 1000 hp dyno pulls!!!

I had to discard my last post.

Brian, I'm not going to get into this BS with you over who is better who loves who more or whatever you like calling it. Go pester someone else cause your input means nothing to me.

I am speaking from a factual basis about someone who acted professional versus someone that didnt. If you build transmissions for a living you should be able to answer simple questions. This was not the case.

David has been a stand up guy from the beginning and I will continue to back him up. If that upsets you I'm sorry. He is a supporting vendor on this forum keep that in mind.

Would it have been easier to go through Mike? Yes.

Was it worth the time and shipping cost to go through David? All day, everyday!

I am trying to be a useful member on this forum. If you have a problem with me or my posts you have my number.

Sorry if I hurt your feelings by not accepting your friend request on facebook!:D

If you have ever met Mike or talked to him you'd find out that he's straight out and doesn't hold back or beat around the bush. He's also very honest too and if there's something cheaper that will work just as good he'll point you in that direction and tell you take your wife to dinner with what you just saved.

x3 mike was very honest straight forward and didnt bs me hoping i can send the trans to him let him go through it but i do look forward to hearing more of davids and mikes results keep us posted guys

The only truthful comment about any of the clutches are that none will hold up at those power levels. Tuning, purpose, and maintenance have a lot to do with how durable these trucks are.

Thank you

1000 hp is just not going to happen for more than a handfull of passes. Sorry guys I have been down this road. It's just hard on parts when you dragrace with a vehicle that weighs 6k plus. Now if you go lite weight with a ally I think you will still have problems because of shift timing and gear ratio. It's just not a drag race tranny! Truck pulling it's a different story. You can run a stock tranny with big power and it will work for a long time. You are in low range (2.71 i think) and never get higher than 4th gear. Just my thoughts and I hope to see everyone at the track soon.

This won't open any can of worms at all. You are correct. The more I talked to you the less I wanted to work on your trans. We just didn't hit it off.:D
As far as your trans goes; you posted here how happy you were with your builder. You even jumped on the guy from your area ( sorry I forget his name ) that was having problems with his trans done by your builder. I fixed the problem and you asked me about it and I told you what was wrong. Shortly after you wanted your trans gone through again and you stated that it was working flawlessly. I said why spend the money if it works fine. Guess I said the wrong thing. Anyways no hard feelings on my part and am glad you are happy with David.:D

Sounds like he had high hopes but didn't have the clutches very long or tested yet. As mentioned in this thread, no idea on cost yet and a week isn't enough time to have to say they're good and going into mass production

The biggest shocker was when he asked me why am I even having my trans gone through if its working great?!?! WTF? Btw, he never got back to me.

So you're mad that he didn't take your $ to refresh your trans that's working great?

So he didn't give you many specific details either?

Mike and I had talked about an issue I was having with the 3-4 shift. He said he knew why due to another trans he had repaired (maricopa agent's) from the same builder. Mike said to bring it in and he would go through it, add some new goodies and swap out the old ML converter for his new converter. He offered all this at a really good price so I figured why not. After the new trans tune I got the day before the races, the harsh 3-4 was gone. I still wanted him to install the parts we had discussed along with the new TC. I guess he thought otherwise?

David never offered the new clutches as an option unlike Mike. He simply stated he had them and that he had been using Reybestos clutches in other builds despite what others had said about them. He told me exactly what was going into the builds and that was all I wanted to know.

Seems like Mike had a change of heart right around the time that Brian and I got into it. But hell, when your not in it for the money, watching $10k walk out the door is no big deal. Right?...
