Haha, that's the way to go, I'm the only guy dumb enough to have a paved driveway up here, or smart enough, I hate wrenching in a gravel driveway, it's hard on the back and knees, so trashing the neighbors is a no go.

I always used my neighbors before we moved though because his was paved, he always thanked me for the free sealer from oil changes.

No I mean when I installed the cooler and filled the whole system I had no oil pressure for 5+ seconds and the light came on i had to shut it down and let the motor drain back and try it again 3 more times before i had oil pressure. And I started with pre-filling the cooler and added 12 quarts to start with. It ended up taking 14qts



What the hell cooler and lines are you running that you have 14 quarts of oil?!

My oil temps are lower then my coolant temps. I am using an after market cooling setup similar to what he is using. Those that have seen my truck know I can back the numbers up.





All sarcasm aside, wonder if you could use a smaller radiator as an aux radiator and use the trans side for an oil cooler? You'd get more coolant capacity and an oil cooler all in one.

I don't think it would take much to do that unless your hauling a lot with a small cooler or no cooler, what I was getting at is I can make my truck get pretty warm, so if you were to add an auxiliary radiator with trans cooler built in and use that spot for the oil cooler it would at least keep oil temps at motor temps correct? I need an oil cooler, I just can't bring myself to buy one when I want to get rid of this truck. Can't make it look or handle like my old one.

The same cooler superdiesel and sledhead used with -12 lines, it had 12 but kept showing one dash low on the dipstick so i added 2 more and it's right on.

weird, my old cooler was MUCH bigger than those and never gave me that issue. very first fill up took 12.25 quarts, all the ones after took 12 on the nose. the new cooler doesnt hold quite that much but works better (better airflow area)

the ford 6.7's kinda do something like this. they have 2 radiators. primary is used for engine coolant and has a thermostat to switch between 2 or 3 rows for cooling. the secondary radiator is used to cool the turbo air charge (they use a water to air setup), trans oil and engine oil. they are two separate cooling systems though meaning they dont share coolant between them. If you added the aux radiator with oil cooler, it would probably work pretty well but i would keep the aux radiator out of the cooling stack for best results

mine always are as well.... until i load the truck down with the toy hauler and start pulling during the summer. oil temps are then 10-20* higher than coolant temps at min. I can make oil temps stay at 180* with coolant at 190* unloaded intown or highway driving though. i generally keep the fan off though when unloaded as it only heats up to coolant temp at 195*. my fuel cooler fan is always on though.

No its a B&M cooler and Jegs 1000 cfm fan. it works worlds better than stock did but id still like to see sub 200* fuel temps during the summer. i still hit 210ish* with a full tank of fuel while towing in the summer pulling the hills. i may throw the same spal fan on the fuel cooler that i have on the oil cooler. world of difference in air flow between the two.

Dan, I couldnt find it thru all the arguing, but how did you guys find an extra quart of capacity without making the pan any deeper? Or is it another inch or so deeper and Im not seeing it?

Our pan is just about the same depth as the stock pan (slightly less deep than the deepest part of the stock pan) but larger, just about everywhere else.

Update!

So I had one of these new engine oil pans installed on one of my personal trucks (03 lb7, "tow pig"). This is what I have noticed thus far.

First thing I noticed was the engine sound, much quieter! (outside and inside). The engine has way less bottom/lower end noise (valve train and injector noise is about the same) and not as "diesel clattery". I think the stock oil pan is almost working as an echo chamber, being it has less mass and is made of steel (think "bell" like).

Second, Oil psi is up a little, about a needles width higher than before with similar conditions.

Third, the engine now hold exactly 3 gallons of oil (as opposed to the stock pan @ 2.5 gal)

I own a Decibel meter, but could not locate it due to work being done at my home. I will get it located, and do some testing in the next week or so when we have another customer install (or install a pan on the race truck). If I had to guess about the reduction in noise DB, I would guess about 3-5 db less than stock (noticeable difference, easily)

I hope this info will help answer some of you questions! :woott::thumb:

Hey Dan, can you buy those powder coated different colors or just raw and black?

Also what oil coolers are you guys running and is there a kit available now or just piece it together?

Okay, so I've had mine in for a couple days and figure I'd give an update, Dan is totally right on engine noise, inside the cab is noticeably quieter, operating temp oil pressure is roughly 2-3psi higher at operating temp, it took a little over 3 gallons for me to have mine at the upper end of full, doing a complete oil change with filter, overall I'd say it's definitely worth the money for better oil temps and the reduced engine noise is nice too
