Yes.. Look at the problem Lyle Harbin had with one just had a Nick in a tooth.. Now have on rotate it some 30° while accelerating from a stop with a 20,000# trailer on your truck. That much weight and fuel to get it moving. Fueling on my tune is usually ~1000uS with rail pressure between 22-26,000psi pending rpm
Throw timing out same said 30° on top the 10-15° that the tune has in that range of 1700-2300rpm something is going to give.

I have a friend local to me that was a die hard Cummins guy and couldn't keep ut out if the shop. He pulls heavy 25 to 30 pounds. He finally decided to switch to a dmax in 2012 and hasn't looked back. His brand loyalty went put the window fast. In his opinion there isn't any comparison between the two anymore. He feels the dmax is the superior platform period. My experiences is it comes down to luck sometimes. Maintenance and how you use the vehicle goes a long way in how durable it will be. Do you only wait till it breaks before it gets repaired and such vs fixing a problem that you know is starting to occur.

Exactly. Grand scheme of things I haven't had that many issues.. That I prefer to drive and work on GM products.

Unless you have oversized injectors your WOT is not 1000Us.. hell a stock LBZ is 1833us

Was thinking helping alleviate some harmonics by running the AF, help longevity, although we have a guy local who has 1/2 a million on his LBZ pulling campers out of northern IN all stock. Says no major breakdowns

Hard to tell for sure from that picture, but the pin looks like it broke in one shot. Not over time. I suspect the crank broke first, then the reluctor spun from the end flopping around.

Just my opinion

That is why i asked what i did earlier. The truck didn't start running bad and backfiring, etc, and then develop the noise, it suddenly started knocking out of the blue which seems to me like the crank broke first and this was a result. Either way this is a rough deal and if i was closer i would love to help out!

I can tell you from experience and I have had two break that the symptoms are not all the same. For instance my first one had a unusual harmonics at low speed throttle and progressively got worse into a knock within 50 miles. The second one had no harmonics issues and no knock issues but misfired rapidly like a shudder on slipping clutches. Then it really misfired and I knew then it was the crank. There are no black and white scenarios with a diesel truck.
