Need an intermediate plate for an 04.5 Dmax/allison. Mine is cracked and causing a coolant leak :angry5:

Anyone have one or know how to get one? Not sure if this is the correct term for the plate but it's the plate between the bellhousing and block.

I have one off my 04 LB7............I don't know if it's the same though????
I assume this is the 'rear plate' (cast aluminum).
If you can confirm that it works........I can ship it Tuesday for $50 plus shipping.......?????...........Total=$70.
Let me know.
Goodluck.

I noticed on mine.........the rear coolant cross-over runs from the oil cooler area across to the pass. side and there's an 'access plate' there. Does that plate have anything to do with an LLY EGR set-up????

I really dont know, I'm having a guy that is very knowledgable in these trucks work on it. He says there is NO where that the coolant could be leaking from other than this plate up top being crack and leaking. It's leaking from the back area of the block, not head, nnot egr cooler and not the inspection plate. Does anyone on here know if coolant runs through this plate or anything? I could never see behind the block to tell whats back there!

this is what one of the chuncks looks like, we are assuming there are other pieces up top that look like this causing the leak.

What the heck did you do to that cover?

Do LLY's have a coolant line running to the turbo? If so, could it be leaking from there and running down the back of the block?

I have no idea, I was on a trip home and about 100 miles into the trip of 120 miles the low coolant msg. came up. Got home and got to looking and the plate being cracked is all we/I could find wrong.

It's not coolant lines, pressure test didn't leak from lines or any of the other areas.

Coolant does flow through this plate.

Are we talking rear cover here?
Yes. It is also referred to as a bellhousing adapter or flywheel housing.

No

Yes, like Ed said, the coolant come in on the driver's side of that plate from the oil cooler and runs through a passage into the back of the block through a hole in each bank of cylinders. Those holes have an o-ring seal. Then on the passenger's side of that plate opposite of where the coolant enters, there is a plate that blocks a hole similar to the hole the oil cooler bolts to.

are you sure about this? I've heard many different ways. I've heard it's better to pull the front end, and tran. out so you can drop the oil pan. is this not true??

These motors a fairly easy to pull. I would leave the trans in place and just remove the front grille and front stack and swap the housing on a cherry picker. You will have to drop the pan to remove the housing.

IIRC, cant you place a bar between the torsion bars to hold the trans up when the motor is out? Since Im going to be in the same boat in a couple weeks, can someone just give a "ballpark" on what needs to be done to pull the motor?? Every one Ive ever helped work on has already been out of the truck, so Ive never actually helped pull one.

Your right on the bar across the torsion bars. We pulled the grill, intercooler, radiator and support, headlight stuff and grillguard off and just came thru the front-lots of room. Had to put the cherrypicker on 3000# setting to keep it from trying to tip-mine is kinda old-used to 455 pontiac heads as counterweights:thumb:eek:n the picker. I thought the hardest part was removing the torque converter bolts. Then remove the fuel lines from the rail on the drivers side-get the tool from a parts store, coolant hoses to rad-pump-bottle, heater hoses, dissconnected the two harness connectors up top and the glowplug box, and there are 4+ grounds on both sides of the block down low in front of the mounts. We have headers so we had to remove the drivers side and we also took the steering shaft apart-if you do this remember to secure the wheel so it doesn't turn and ruin a $200 clockspring-the flywheel bolts are damn tight-very hard to torque on a cherrypicker-its like 59ftlbs then 60* and then 60* again I think might check that-but it ends up at like 250ftlbs-with a 14mm allen head "impact" socket. You also need to use the exact tool to replace the rear main seal-don't do as I did and just "knock" it in-ours now leaks and I have to redo it-for free-I just bought both the installer and flywheel holding tool from Matco-$575:eek: but would have been worth it to not have to pull the trans out of a 4x4 for free:(
If you need any other help just pm me or call 3253746912
