So out of all the guys here who say not pulling the motor is easier, who has actually done the job this way. I am being told the harmonic balancer needs to be pulled, water pump needs to be pulled, oil cooler needs to be pulled, both pans need to be pulled, oil drain for turbo needs pulled...sounds like one heck of a job to get done while the motor is in the truck. So, who has actually done this....?

I have done it twice with out pulling the motor , the Balancer doesn't have to come of , nor the water pump , nor the oil cooler but the cover that connects the oil cooler to the rear cover does , the lower pan yes , upper pan can stay , the turbo drain can stay but the studs and nuts need to be removed out of the rear cover side ( easy once the trans is out ) I can get it done in a day usually but its a long day .

Okay, that is exaclty what I am looking for is someone who has done this before. Is it common for these seals never to leak until it gets cold out, say around 0-30 degress F?

Not sure on the leak , both the ones I have replaced were from being broken , bad motor mounts on both led to the rear cover breaking.

You might have a bad seal where the coolant runs through. Doubt it's broken/cracked. Pull the trans and take a look is all I can say. Definetely a weird case

Is there anything I can tell by simply pulling the trans or do you mean pull the trans and tear it all apart?

When you pull the trans you should have a good view of the area and hopefully pinpoint where it's coming from. Pulling the cover ain't fun either so hopefully it's not your rear cover

Does anyone have access to alldata or the GM service books for this job? I would like anything that could help guide me to getting this problem fixed.
