What are u talking about?? Do u just ramble? Possibly Where did I say anything about innovation and pistons? Another thread on CompD where the cost of pulling and direction of the 2.6 class was discussed, I believe you spoke of innovation (I just used that conversation and brought pistons into the mix as monotherms for DMax could be considered innovative as you stated that's what the sport is about) just thought I would reference it, sorry if you couldn't follow I said saying they are a fix before they are proven is retarded. Understood, but they haven't been unproven in the DMax either so why discourage others from trying? Anybody that is into building anything knows that. So anybody that knows anything about building only uses parts that have been tested in hundreds of builds before they use them...come on get real man. I'm sure you've tried things other hadn't tried or thought of, or are you telling me you only tried stuff that was proven on the track by many other trucks.... You have no clue how much power I make I bet I can safely assume you don't make much more and/or much less than other competitive 2.6 trucks that you pull against (sometimes you win sometimes you don't), so I bet one could safely assume you are "close" in power to those trucks, or do you have a ton more power on tap and you just aren't using it (saving it for later...lol)?, or how long I ran cast pistons You are correct, I don't (never stated I did). Do u like just typing long winded paragraphs that mean and prove nothing? Maybe it was valve lash coming from my gasser days and a wet intake setup (direct injection may be a little different), but put a pressure and temp monitor in a combustion chamber with improper (tight) lash on one cylinder and tell me what it does? ??? Lmao umm no When I stated valve lash it was more in reference to how one cylinder can be affected differently than others (with all else being equal), when you stated your failure it seemed as though it was a cylinder/piston and not a complete meltdown across all cylinders. You stated you melted A PISTON, and not a set (maybe it was just an oversight on your part, if so no big deal). Do you actually read what others type or just assume it's jibberish?.

Yes I can type and maybe it doesn't amount to much, and no I have not done as much innovative things for diesels as yourself or others, but it doesn't make what you say gospel. You state don't expect Monotherms to be the next coming of God, and all I'm stating is why give up hope? If they don't pan out for competition then they don't pan out, but if nobody tries them (especially in a competition build) then we will never know. Someone's got to the be the guinnea pig. If you don't want it to be you, that's your perogative. If someone's got the money and the means to fix if they don't work, why not try them.

Rob you have done some amazing things with your truck and from the sounds of it, done so with a lot less $$ and a ton more innovation than most, I just think it's weird that you discourage others from trying to do what got you where you are today. And yes I've usually took the stance that 2.6 is too high priced to be competitive for most, and I believe you and others have told me to quit whining about cost, yet when a piston comes out that COULD save people money in the long run, you state it's too high a price tag from something unproven (Everybody jumps to spend tons of money on new parts just cause someone says its the answer to our problems). Isn't that what others and possibly yourself done with spools, axles, turbos, etc?

It used to be fun watching your truck and your accomplishments...

no one is ever going to agree completely as a whole, that's what leads to innovation.

I enjoy reading about all the different ideas along with success/failure stories because it all helps me understand what I am working with and what my options are in the event of a failure. :thumb:

DMAX FTW!!!!! :woott:

I've managed to clock 28 hours run time on the boat motor now without cracking one of the new design [lower CR and polished bowl] cast Mahle's.. :D

However those who read my piston experiences know the failures with stocker's was a mix of extreme heat fatigue and lack of oil cooling supply. So suggest you check those squirters for any restrictions no matter what your running...

On a side note, tore my 6 leaker Ford down last month for the mandatory head stud kit upgrade and guess what I found?? A cracked piston.. Not to bad yet, but was a 1/4 inch crack starting from the bowl lip extending out along the top. That cylinder showed the worst signs of leaking coolant, so who knows, but the point of failure exactly matches up with my Dmax collection. IMO bowl design is the key to these failures.

Anyone have a Cummin's I can drive for while? Just curious how quickly I could poke a hole in one of those :roflmao:

What kind of sustained EGT's are you seeing in your boat? Nevermind I read your thread on DF, interesting.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. Have you been monitoring your oil temps yet? Didn't read that if you have been. I opened up my squirters a few years back to .086 over the stock .063. Now I'm trying to get cool oil up through them to help with the heat stress (fatigue).

Hello Ken

Nice to see you make it to Duramax Diesel's website. I still want to come down and ride in that badboy! Glad it is finally running good. Sorry I didn't have a injector for you guys today. Jeff
