What all was done to the motor? JUST rods and springs and head studs and cut pistons? Im trying to figure out what i would need for a bare bones build if mine goes.:thumb:

That's what I'm struggling with. But, I also want to up the power.

It is surely time for a better piston then. You have been lucky getting that much use out of the motor in current form. If you have the money I would use the monotherms. If not at least go with the forged if you going to race mostly and drive every once in a while.

I think there are just a few sets out there right now, but last I heard, they are supposed to be released to the public in the fall. I would call Guy at SoCal or Steve at TTS and see if they have any available. I think they both have some or had some anyway.

x2. When i talked with guy about them a few months back, what he had were the prototypes and was saving those for a select few truck he wanted to try them in. the production run units wont be availible till fall per Mahles update on facebook a few weeks back

4400 hurts a little!!

Agreed, but how much to go into the engine even every 3 years and bore/replace the block, replace pistons, gaskets etc. etc. I think the monotherms may come out cheaper in the long run.... as long as the friggin crank doesn't break.

I am struggling with the cost as well... I have rods just need to figure out pistons... IMOP there are only 3 I am considering for my engine, Fingers oval bowl, Arias Forged or Mahle Monotherms. 4400 bones is tough to swallow though.

There not available until October on the Monotherms. To go into the block and change just rings, bearings and gaskets will cost you near a couple thousand in parts,

I agree but after 1000hp it's the nature of the beast!

I'm willing to bet Kelly will not have to replace the rings before he has to tear down the motor for other reasons... Sadly

Why do monotherems help on bearing replacement Shane?

I think the whole forged and ring replacement is all a bunch of BS anyway jmho

How about a set of Jon's (Fingers) pistons? He asked earlier in the thread.

No offense to him... But 1000 hp + ???

I've learned the hard way that you don't fix what will never work
Bandaids are meant to heal, stop hurting yourself and you don't need bandaids

Some people just don't get it!!

No one has even tried these pistons in a high hp applicAtion and yet you ask some one to try them? You know how much it cost to strip a motor and replace stuff??? I've been a guinee pig and it sucks and is not worth it!

I'm not by any means bashin fingers pistons.. But I've ran forged pistons and they work! I wouldn't recommend them if I didn't think they would. People that recommend something from a idea.... Well that's a different story

Sorry to sound bitter but to many people
