Okay so I put my other ECM in it and everything lights up like it should, I can log data with the scan tool but now I am coming up with the following code P1631. The scan tool shows that the rail has pressure but no fuel is being injected from what I can tell with the mm3 PID.

So I tried to do the VATS relearn under DVT but it says no reply and turns red. I also tried the way JoshH said to with the tuning tool but I cannot download the current tune to change the VIN.

Something major has to be wrong here. I can log data but I cannot upload the current tune in my good ECM. This damn P1631 is pissing me off.

Here are all the codes I have.

P1631 = Theft Deterrent start enable signal not correct
U1255
U1000 = Class 2 Data Link Malfunction
U1016 = Lost Communications With ECM/PCM
U1096 = Lost Communications With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)

WTF am I missing here?

You have some kind of fault electrically.

Do you have any way to put the ecm in another truck and reflash it with a disabled VATS tune and swap the VIN# and then retry it ?

Tony, I went out and looked over all the grounds and found the tcase ground not hooked to the frame by the body mount. So I cleaned them up and connected it to the frame. That took care of all the communication codes. Right now I only have P1631 and C0225 left. I then went and took off each ground and cleaned them to a mirror finish and reconnected. That did not change my codes but atleast now I know all the grounds on the block are 100% clean. Does that change your plan of attack? The current ECM is out of a 02

Can you scan the truck at all through the OBD2 port ? If not and there is any aftermarket stuff like a radio, On-Star pull those fuses for the time being.

The BCM and ECM must be happy to get the vehicle to start. That is why the VATS must be disabled in the ecm then the VIN# will not matter in the ecm for test purposes.

If you cannot communicate with the truck and all fuses are OK including the ecm fuse which is powered off the cigarette lighter circuit then there is still something going on between the modules.

If the truck did not crank over then the ecm would be suspect, but it is cranking and coding so it is working. The 2002 ECM will be fine in a 2001 truck, but you have to disable the VATS even if it means flashing it in another truck and swapping it back in.

The other code is C0225LF Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit Open. It was hit there wasn't it ?

No fuses are pulled and yes I can scan the truck with the scan tool however I cannot flash as it says the ECM is locked which I know isn't true.

I did a search here and tried going in and changing the VIN but it wouldn't let me I also tried to disable the VATS and it wouldn't let me.

Thats the problem, I cannot disable or change the VIN.

Yes, I know what the problem is. I lost the sensor bolt in the hub so the sensor itself isn't bolted down. I will fix that though.[/QUOTE]

My responses are in red.

Can you disable the VATS in your pulling truck ECM and put it in that truck to test it?

I will try that if this next ECM doesn't work for me. It is hotter than a Mo-Fo here in Omaha right now with unreal humidity...

So the ECM I got from a friend worked. I plugged it in and it fired right up. I couldn't believe it.

So now it is finally ready for the paint shop, leaves Omaha for a 2 hour ride north this Sunday and will be done in less than a week. I cannot wait!!!!

I took the truck for it's very first 10 foot drive today. Backed it out of the driveway and pulled right back in, worked great so far!

:happy2:

I know you probably checked this but did the old O-ring stay on the filter houseing when you changed the fuel filter?? I did this on the LB7 and it took me forever to figure out. Also had a cracked houseing on one once that could be it?

I was wrong, this is not a fuel issue. Thanks though

For those who care, take a look at this thread I created for an electrical issue I am having.
