No Randy, I still have my 02 pulling truck!

The frame guy just came over to the house to look at this thing and he claims it would be $1300 to fix it. Said it is far to bent to just straighten, said we will need to cut the supports out and have them re-welded in.

I found a frame down in Kansas that I am going to buy and do a complete swap. This project just got bigger.

I would rather do the frame swap if its a good frame. The rest of the front end will go together much better. I've done a few rebuilders before and with front ends, you can do it the easy way or the hard way.

The whole truck minus the trans. It was recently built and he already had a buyer for it. If I was going to have a built trans I would want to do that on my own so I would know exactly what it has.

JD4440-This would make duramax number 3 but I sold my black truck to Steve Ford back in October. Good thing is, this is identical just a touch longer :D

:D No complaints here!

:D No complaints here!

I was telling my girlfriend tonight how this truck is attempting to replace a missing part of my heart, a 2002 crew cab shortbox. I think it will all be fine in the end.

I spoke with a guy down in Juntion City, Kansas that has a bare frame for $500.00 that is not wrecked so I will be going down friday morning to pick that up.

Well I didn't go to Kansas to pick the frame up. A 9 hour drive didn't seem like any fun to me especially in a 5.4L 02 F250. :barf:

There is a shop in Des Moines, Ia that has a frame from a 2005 for a few bucks more. Does anyone know what the differences are between that and a 01? I don't mind some altering but I don't want to mess with anything serious if that makes sense.

Todays progress is I got the cab unbolted, all the wires unhooked, and built a set of saw-horses to set the cab on until I can put it back together with a new frame. I got the box unbolted as well but one bolt is just spinning in the hole. I can't pull it out so it is threaded into something but I just can't get it out. Any ideas on that or should I just torch it and get a new bolt?

I dont think there were any differences framewise 2001-2007classic, Josh. There could be...best thing to do is check GM UPfitter.

Well got the cab and box off yesterday. Used a bobcat and 2" straps to lift the cab and box, worked out nicely. Took about 2 hours to get it off and put on stands. I hope to have a frame by the end of this week.

Does anyone know if a radiator and intercooler from a 2005 LLY will work in a 2001 LB7truck? Also is the core support the same? Need to know ASAP, buying one from a guy with a wrecked truck. Thanks.

core support is the same. I would imagine the rad would be too b/c the water pumps are the same.

what else does he have from the 05?

also as far as frame differences between the 01 and 05. i know the front frame horns are different but i'm pretty sure that's it.

At this point I am just doing a straight repair, keeping the 2001 stuff.

The front frame section I bought was off an 02 so I think the frame horns will be the same. I was only concerned that the core support wouldn't work in a 2001 as it came off a 2005. I hope I can make it work out.

well you're buying new headlight mounting brackets and crap anyway so you should be fine.

Got the frame sectioned out today, took about 3 hours to cut out the old wrecked one and get it ready for the new piece. I will have to work on the good section tomorrow at work since it isn't at home yet. I would like to have the frame welded in 2 or so days but will play it by ear. Just need to get some cognito HD tie rod ends and the front diff welded up and I should be clear to install the front suspension and steering componets!

The new frame section will be welded in tomorrow after work. Took about 3 evenings 3 hours each to cut out the old section and prep the new section for welding. I had to mark the frame, drill some pilot holes, and grind now to bare metal for the welds. Everything looks as if it will go back together really well! I am excited to see how this turns out! Nothing too major has come up yet that I couldn't handle and I would imagine once the frame is square and welded in that would have been my biggest hurdle.

If I keep this pace up I will once again have 2 running duramax trucks in no time! :happy2:

Got the frame welded in last night, can't believe how easy that went together. All the measurments were good to go! Only took about an hour to unload the section, line it up, and weld it in.

Now I am going to start putting the steering and suspension back on.
