Sounds good! :thumb:

Im a bit behind on news...are you staying with the 01-02 look?

I am sticking with that style and not switching over to a GMC. I think it will look fine and prevent anyone from asking why my 01 has a 03 or newer chevy/gmc front end when and if it comes time to sell.

Got the steering gear box mounted, brake lines installed, all steering minus tie rods installed and sway bar installed tonight. Didn't take long, I thanked myself for taking the time to write on individual bags for the hardware! Will get the new lower ball joints installed tomorrow and get the lower control arms mounted up. Should have some spindles here soon so I can button all that stuff up. Overall very satisfied with how easy everything is going together.

Oh and I also sold the truck to a friend of mine who just sold his 05 LLY for a gas burner today. I guess gas really isn't his thing. :thumb: Pretty sweet not even having the truck done and having it pre sold! Talk about some great motivation :D

So I have pretty much everything in order to be put back together within a week however I have came across some wiring issues. The ECM plugs are ruined and so is the transmission NSBU plugs. The moron who installed the aftermarket trans cut the NSBU harness right at the plug when he couldn't get the plug out. What a hack job this kid did, I am suprised the truck even moved! Anyways, does someone have a junk harness from a 01 or 02 that they wouldn't mind helping me out with? I need the ECM plugs and the NSBU plugs with a bit of wire lead on each.

I would be able to send you a UPS label via email to make the transaction as painless as possible. Thanks in advance.

Here is the problem I am facing. The connector has less wires than the harness. Ben says the plugs are all the same from 01-05 so I tried to use a 05 plug in my 01. Can someone point me in the right direction? What is this extra wire?

Well, all wiring issues are under control at this point and I just finished loading the bobcat up so I can install the cab and box today. The weather cleared up a bit and I have to take advantage of it. I am hoping to atleast have it running by tonight but we shall see. I will get pictures once it is all bolted down later.

So what was the solution to the wiring issues, Josh? Where'd that odd wire go?

Congrats on getting it this far. Good luck on the cab install.

Well, as for the wires...I have no idea what I had but I got another wiring harness section and we traced all the wires to ensure they went to the right pins and then we made the connections. Everything worked out just fine.

Cab and box went on just fine no problems. I just need to plumb in the transmission lines and install the starter and we should be good to go. It is suppose to go to paint this weekend so we shall see. Oh, I also need to install a new NSBU switch but that should be pretty easy to do.

Passanger side batter is in, new starter is in, ECM and TCM are connected, new brake lines are in and brakes are bled, dash lights came to life but no start yet. I need to go pickup a NSBU switch tomorrow and hope for the best. Once it starts up and can drive I will be ready for the body shop to paint and hang the fenders and hood! It is getting closer and closer...I can feel it :happy2:

So I got the NSBU switch in and wa-la it cranks over. So I go out and prime the system then crack a injector line and crank until pure fuel is coming out. So in theory the truck should start but it won't. I had someone else crank and watched the exhaust for smoke but got nothing. The engine cranks and cranks but does not and will not fire.

Here is what I have done so far;
check all fuses...ok
check for air in system...none
ensure all plugs are in nice and tight...good to go
ensure the battery has plenty of juice and hooked to batt charger...good

So I am thinking dead ecm and here is why...the fuel level will not rise when the truck is turned to "on" and when cranking on the engine the RPM guage does not even twitch.

I also noticed when I bought the truck that there was a dsp5 switch hooked up, I don't know if it worked but it was cut off right at the ecm. Let's assume it was hooked up and working, would it being cut cause a no start situation? Would I have to license the ECM and put 01 stock operating system on it to start back at square one?

Do not full flash a 2001 OS in that ecm, you will permanently lock the oil life at 0%.

Use 2002-OS/15186006.

I can email you a file if you need one

Okay, thanks for the insight.

What is your thoughts on the whole broken wired dsp5 switch? If not connected properly and if the tune in the truck was for a dsp5 setup would it cause a no start?

Gotcha. You're probably on the right track with the ECM.

I see you're using the new-style mirrors.

Yes, truck came with classic style GM mirrors but I took them off to cut down on the rebuilding costs. They are on dp.com for sale right now though awaiting payment from another member.

No, the cut dsp5 wires won't cause no start. It'll just default to the base tune if my understanding is correct.

Maybe a passlock situation? Can't remember if u have to burn a license to get around the passlock or not. For some reason I'm thinking not through the scanning functions but can't remember for sure & don't have efi live in front of me.

Good luck! It's already sold as soon as it's done, right?

Well so today I tried to hook my efi live up to it but it wouldn't communicate and no check engine light would come on. So, I am thinking because the ECM is bent in on the side cover that it was ruined by the accident. I am going to pull the one from my pulling truck and try it although I have a new ECM being shipped out Monday.

Yes the truck is sold pending the guy sells his current truck, sad part is I made a deal at $14,500 for it. I think that is a bit low considering it only have 96,000 miles on it.

It would as SmokeShow said default to the base tune if the switch is damaged or wires are cut.

When you say no start, no communication and no check engine light it could be the ecm.

If you had a bench harness you could rule out the ecm as it bypasses all the truck wiring and will allow you to diagnose it easier.

If you can take the ecm apart and the circuit board is not broken then it might be salvageable.

;)

The fact that it cranks over is an indication that the ecm is probably "OK" but with no communication through the OBD2 port might indicate a electrical problem.
