I just bought this 2001 Chevy 2500HD from a local seller who was involved in an accident. The front drivers side was hit pretty hard while sitting in a parking stall over night at his apartment complex. So far I know the frame is bent to the passanger side, core support is trashed, hood is junk as well as both fenders. There are some suspension parts that will need replaced as well. Looks like the upper A-arms are junk because of the ball joints breaking off as the truck slip on the concrete.

Other than the damage to the front the overall condition is pretty good. No major scratches or dents. The truck has 96,xxx miles on it and is a crew cab long box.

At this point I believe I will be converting the front end to a 03 GMC as long as the parts supplier(fellow member) comes through. I called my local junk yard and they want $3500.00 for a front clip

When I made the deal with the seller, he wanted to keep his transmission as he just installed an aftermarket kit so that is not included in the sale. Still, not that bad of a deal I feel.

Total investment so far $2500.00!!! :thumb:

At this point I plan on rebuilding it and keeping it. I would venture to say that if I was to fix it "right" then I pry won't be able to go out and buy a replacement for what I will have invested in it.

I do plan on driving it for awhile so I can pull my other truck around to the pulls and the biggest reliever is that now I can put a hood stack on my pulling truck since I won't have to drive it to the pulls if I don't want too!!!

The front end is off completely now and tomorrow the suspension and steering will be removed and replaced with new as needed. Once the steering and suspension is replaced I will take it to my frame guy which should only take a day or so. :)

If anyone has a line on front clips please come forward and speak!! ;) I am also in need of a stock trans. No aftermarket trans is needed so if you have a good trans that hasn't been beat to shit please, speak up as well :D

I found this truck on dieselplace. The guy was asking $6,000 with a built trans but once he found a buyer for the trans I low balled him and he accepted. Maybe he knows something I don't know

I welcome any advice, this is my first rebuilder.

Pictures of tonight's progress to follow soon! :thumb:

On edit: The price was $2250 not $2500 my bad.

The whole truck minus the trans. It was recently built and he already had a buyer for it. If I was going to have a built trans I would want to do that on my own so I would know exactly what it has.

JD4440-This would make duramax number 3 but I sold my black truck to Steve Ford back in October. Good thing is, this is identical just a touch longer :D

You can sell 3 of the 4 doors and just about break even at this point. Before I went too far with it, I would get a radiator and run it to see if it has major issues. If it was parked and his daily driver, it is probably in OK shape.

Why do I keep doing this?

It got hit that hard in a parking lot? Wow. Cheapest clip I could find on CarPart was $2500 in Michigan. GMC 1500 and 2500 clips should be the same except for the HD grill (which is pricey) and the core support. Did you consider PMing NorCal Nick about front end suspension parts? Maybe look on the Place for someone who did a front axle conversion?

Nice find Josh.

I do not plan on selling piece by piece but it is good to know that the doors are that valuable, I had no idea.

Yes Rob, the frame will look nice. Not as nice as my pulling truck but I assure you that it will look good.

The story I got on the accident was that some clown in a brand new KIA flew through his apartment complex and smashed into the truck. I guess he got out and ran as well. The cops eventually found the guy and arrested him but from what I was told he didn't have insurance. The funny thing is, I guess after the guy wrecked the new KIA that he hasn't even paid for he calls up the dealer and tells them he no longer wants to buy the car. Personally sounds like I would be suing the car dealership for this guy's mistake as if he didn't complete the buying process and was only test driving then the car is techincally theirs still. Who knows.

Here is the pictures from last night.

You should update the front end to the 06 style :D then tell everyone its a pretty much new truck :thumb:

I am thinking it will be converted to an 03 GMC but not sure yet. Still trying to work the deal with another member from dieselplace.com. However, I like the way you think :thumb:
