Dale do you need a core or a stock converter to run?
I dunno Albert. If I can find a good converter I may just throw it in with my stock trans to get by for a few months until I get down to see Mike. I talked to him about just getting a converter for now and doing the trans later but I am worried about hurting the trans and putting a bunch of shit through the converter and then having to do it again. If I go with a stocker and it happens then it's no big deal.
Either way though I need a converter for a core. If mine wasn't so rusted around the pilot shaft side or whatever you call it I would just use mine
I am going to clean it up and give it a good once over and then decide. Worried about damaging my SFI flywheel too so if it doesn't clean up well I won't risk it. Pump side of it is good.

I have a 6-speed that roasted itself with the warm up mode. I have no idea what condition the converter is in. Reece gave me a 5-speed converter that is unknown as well. I have my original 5-speed converter in good useable condition. You pay the shipping on which ever one you want.

Thanks Albert but I will either try to find one locally for cheap or one in the lower 48 that I can have shipped to Mike for cheap for core.

I see no reason why rust on the engine side of the converter would cause core issues. That part gets replaced anyway.

Oh? I might be ok then. Pump side is good.

It's not the surface rust I am worried about but the pitting and erosion on the piece that goes inside the flywheel. Not sure how critical this part is as I think it is just to help center the converter until it gets bolted up right? I will post up a picture of it when I get home in a couple weeks so y'all can see how bad it is.

Just got off the phone with Mark @ Danville. Decided to go with his latest 3794VA to twin with my S480 so got that ordered up and getting shipped to G & J. Brad's getting quite the pile of stuff there so hopefully they get on with the machining soon so I can get it all out of his hair.

Got some blankets coming from Levi. Always a pleasure to deal with him!
Now trying to find a parts breakdown and numbers for the fuel system on the engine so I can order all new hoses. And tensioner/idler pulleys.

Pulleys and tensioners ordered from Rockauto. Good prices I think.
Also ordered the fuel return lines from them. Dorman is the supplier and a fair bit cheaper than GM ones. Will see what kind of quality they are......

So I have a plug in the upper coolant pipe off the thermostat housing since I pulled my stock turbo off many moons ago. Now that I am putting a 3794 in I just realized I am going to need to run a coolant line again and I can't remember if it comes out of where I got this plug now or not as per the attached picture I found.
Anyone got a picture of a stock lbz with this valve in place and can confirm it goes to the turbo?

Thanks guys. Is it a thermostat or just a straight flow through to reduce size?

I think it is just a fitting don't see a reason for a thermostat there. But I honestly didn't look inside when I swapped the turbo out. I looked in my Haynes manual and found no reference to it either.

Well I got the plug out and cleaned up. Working on a horse trade with Josh for his. Not a big fan of putting that long donkey dink back in but I don't have much choice.

But I was thinking what do the van's use? Does that fitting come right out of the thermostat housing? I saw some guys switching to the fan stat housing and upper hose. Any advantage or reason for this?
