Ben: You are a smart guy with a lot of knowledge. Just stop drinking the Kool-Aid buddy! Nobody is picking on you, just trying to show you and guide you toward the light!

Autoforums BOUGHT all of the knowledge that put into the forum by each and every one of us for free! Cooperate America at its best right there. What used to be a "for enthusiasts, by enthusiasts" site is now a money making " for profit, by profit" Monster Diesel cooperation. ;) (By the way the shit don't work!) :roflmao: Back at the time, I was not privy to what autoforums really was about, but I found out quickly. Everything that fellow members stated has come true so far. And the next will be a full paying only membership down the road. (I know I don't have to pay for anything now, but I don't care as Mackin stated it is about principle) But with that you get a T-shirt, decal and bigger PM box and maybe even a little place inside where you can go and feel special! ;) Nice warm and fuzzy feeling huh! :roflmao:

After that, after autoforums has prostituted the site and squeezed every last penny out of it, they will try and sell it, or if not feesible, just abandoned it and let it die off. All of it containing "our" free collective knowledge and wisdom that was put into it. That WAS the place that most all of us called home for a while. That is why is a hard pill to swallow!

They make money from vendors, selling giggle ads, and now getting rid of giggle ads. Make sense? Thankfully there are sites like this that have the original "old timers" that were the driving force behind the original DP theory.

Ben, stop following the carrot at the end of the stick, as I know you are smarter than that. They made yo pay for something that you could have had for free. Big business at its best.

Anytime you post anything over there lately that is "against" the MACHINE, it gets cut or closed immediately. (Ask me how I know, because I made a few mistakes myself back in the day that I wish never happened. But I saw the light thanks to people like Mackin and a few others that I respect) They only want the "good" and cannot accept the reality. They don't allow free speech and don't like any debate. In small part, the staffers are all following the carrot at the end of the stick.

Diesel enthusiasts are very passionate people! :thumb:

Ben, you could have always downloaded the important ones to your computer as HTML or text....put them in a file you have handy on the desktop. Just sayin'.

when they are downloaded, they lose all the formatting and stuff like that, thats exactly why I said "I know I can download them, but choose not to for this reason"

I think everyone is missing the point that I could care less what they do with my info...if they "bought" my info/tech, I really just dont care anymore. Maybe I did in the beginning at some point, but oh well. As long as it helps the guy on the other end asking the question, thats all that matters to me. Im not going to not help someone just because "im not gonna give autoforums any of my information so they can make a buck off of it"

Its not like im "losing money" so to speak when autoforums "steals my info/tech for profit", its not like I paid someone else to teach me how to install a nav unit.

I just keep digging myself deeper in a hole with this thread, no turning back now so I guess ill just keep going. Whatever opinions/images people have of me because of this, fine go ahead, picture me as charlie brown....I really dont care. I could drop off the forums tomorrow and still have a life, I know none of you believe that though.

THE DP SUCKS !!!!

Little "Nicky" and "Chaddy" sold out, they were just Auto-Forums lite, Chad had long envisioned a way to make the site more profitable but they both knew the uphill battle they faced. Rumor was "Little Nicky" got a few 1099's from some of the supporting vendors that drew some attention to his off-book income stream and he had to pony up some tax money which was rumored to be the reason he sold out when he did, funny it was an April sale wasn't it......................again just rumors and hearsay.

Isn't it great that all of the information was posted for free, and all the time since the sale and even before the staff there foolishly ran the Forum so they could have a special title like Administrator or Moderator all the while giving up their free time to make Nick at first and now Stewy richer.

I figure "little Nicky from 2003-the sale date in 2009 probably grossed $200K in vendor revenue off-book, not too bad for a web site run out of a spare bedroom in CA. Not including all his free swag he got from Vendors and Companies in exchange for his "connections" and don't forget that survey he got a handsome check for........:thumb:

Now they just bombard you with worthless Ads, they diminish the value of the supporting vendors by allowing any Google Ad to run and then they convince people like you that the best deal is to take more money from you to get rid of the bullshit they piled onto you and wore you down with.

My advise is to clean your PM box out, WTF is so important about the formatting ?? Isn't it's all just text, maybe it's HTML text formatting but who really cares........:roflmao:

Or pony up and pay to be a legit vendor, you know they have already read all your PM's anyway..........

Ben if you have en example of one that you don't mind me seeing forward it to me other there. I'm Poltergeist over there also (just never posted, only registered so I can see threads). I can take a look and see what it would take to save one and save the formatting. I know a thing or 3 about html and css.

I will say that I have to laugh at how smart AF is. Like Pat said a while back. They buy a site that was making money from vendors (who also post tech usually), make more money by adding Goggle ads and the whole thing is basically built by people (registered users) posting info and not getting paid for it and its run and oversaw by people (mods/admins) not getting paid for it. AF usually only has 1 or 2 paid admins for their sites. And those people have a number of sites that they are responsible for so they are not spending all of their time at 1 site. (The same thing happened recently on an El Camino forum I used to be on and was an admin helping the old owner.)

Really quite brilliant on their side.

I would say have Randy help you as he's a little more talented, but his is a very sad story itself.

Gee Jeff... thanks. I put that site together more than a decade ago while I was staying at the cancer center while my wife was fighting for her life with cancer. Having a web site rather than sending out dozens of emails every other day saved me time. You get a lot of time on your hands when all she can do for weeks at a time is sleep and take in chemo drugs. That site was put together to share the fight of her life with her friends and our family. A year and a half of doctors, surgeries, estimations of how much longer she would live, and wondering if she would make it another day drives home just how important life is... and how utterly worthless stuff like this are.

12 years later, I still have my wife - despite being told several times she had less than 4-6 months to live with no quality of life. That website is a testimony to my love for her, how much we relied on God to get us through things daily - sometimes hourly - and it documents how we made it through this fight for her life.

If you want to deride and ridicule me for that... fine, you go right ahead. I'm obviously not as smart or wise as you nor do I have priorities like you do... thank GOD.

I hope NONE of you ever have to live through something like that.

The Brilliance comes from their Frog-Cooking talent.

"How do you cook a live frog?" - You put it in a pan and slowly turn up the heat, and it will cook before it realizes it's too late to jump out.

Very few sites live to see what I call "critical mass". When a board starts, there is a large sudden influx of new members, then it slows down. If it surpasses the initial growth rate as time goes on, it will continue to grow no matter what.

Companies like AF buy sites that are past the "critical mass" point, then there is often a decline, as usually child sites spawn off the original triggered by the betrayal perceived by members.

They need to maximum profits, but they also can't make sudden changes that will spawn off more child sites. So it's a tricky balancing act. AF has killed some of their properties in the past, so they work very closely on Frog-Cooking.

If AF could fill a site with nothing but paid ads they would do it in a heartbeat. But that doesn't work. Content is actually just overhead to them, something that needs to exist and be supported so the ads gets hits. It's their unpaid workers that keep the content coming, not their paid staff.

You have become incredibly defencive and paraniod what is the deal man???? You are a freakin genious dude for real you have pulled off some amazing parts and fabrications, but it is like you have some one that has dirt on you??? Just my 0.02...

As for the place I could care less, once Randy got his hands on it, it was a freakin joke. You could get banned for sneezing to hard at your computer, I don;t know how many times Randy and or Stew banned me for trying to deal with a Ford mole over there, apparently they are close friends with that powerdog idiot hell he is probably a mod by now. Yes Nick sold out on the site and it's members but Randy and Stew ran into the ground

Guys, I like Ben so I will stand up for him here. Not aimed at anyone in particular, but at the readers in general.

He has contributed a lot to the Dmax community over the 6? years I've known him. Yes, he can be moody on the internet, but all of us suffer with that disease to one degree or another.

He said he made a mistake, then he apologized. No need to kick him.

Said 2005 in the footer?

Sorry Randy, I don't won't to hear your sad story either. The fact is you are a Internet prick that never had a life and now you think you own the DP. If you have the slightest disagreement with anyone, there goes the ban hammer. I wonder if you talk to people like that face to face? I bet not, because most men would knock your teeth down your throat.

PM deleted because McRat doesn't want it here

Take a look around. Search "Randy" or "the sack" and see what everyone has to say.

How's that Monster Diesel working out? I see that fad disappeared quick, so did the scammer and tool selling it. Did you not see profit on it?

Have a great day , Keyboard Warrior.

Guys, Don't Post PM's Here.

It's considered bad manners on this site. Private conversations are just that, regardless of what "other sites" policy has been on the subject.

I guess I really don't see their point, but if that is what some of them want so be it. I really don't care for the heavy handed mods over there, really haven't used it for any tech in probably three years or so. Go to the market place, update the dmax quick 50 list and ck the drag racing and that's about it. Use to be a great site, not so much anymore. What I really hate is when you are trying to do a search or use one of the headers, half the time that damn add covers up the link.

Exactly. I was banned (as a mod) for bringing his scamming ways up to Randy and Stew. He made up some BS and I was out with no reasoning at all. I havent heard ONE thing since then in the form of an apology or anything else. All of the sticky's I made, all the info from others that I compiled into sticky's for everyone else.....all for nothing. Randy and Stew run a dictatorship over there and dont hesitate a minute to ban anyone.

Ben is perfect example. I guarantee if he didnt offer as much knowledge over there and they didnt perceive him as an asset of their behalf he would be gone for good like so many of us. Noone on staff liked Ben. I was neutral and as a matter of fact stood up for him quite a few times. I didnt care one way or the other and we had some words but I never take any of this internet bullshit to heart. I mean comon its the damn internet!

It would be nice to be unbanned there but only because I liked helping people with the lighting and LEDs. Plus there are quite a few people there that I was good friends with that arent anywhere else. Im not going to sweat it though. There is plenty of other sites to visit with less drama and better mannered admins. Its just a principle thing with me but they think if they unban me I will just go in a lash out everything and what not. Im not that immature. Im a big boy now.

Ben I sure hope you dont take offence to what I said. Its merely an observation that I made from your posts. Ive called other people tools before, as well as alot of other things. Many of them I consider friends. One guy I met at a diesel GTG in CT, I told him he looked like a dork. He calls me every so often to shoot the shit. Now mind you that perticular friend has a permanant ban from DP, and I think hes even banned here. He runs his mouth a bit, but he knows his shit. Im sure your similar in some ways, Im sure if I met you we could get along. Im also friends with Hoot, who everyone thinks was a strange dude. Maybe there right, but i get along good with him, and consider him a friend. My point being im just trying to be honest and tell you what I see.
If you want to pay DP for a few perks, good for you. I see your point is your paying for a connection to potential customers, we all see it as we are paying to be able to read the info we posted without a bunch of BS advertising.

I also used to talk to Nick. I sent him stickers, hats, shirts. I only charged him for some of the stuff, but when it came time to make big orders, he went elsewhere. I still have a HUGE DP sticker on my truck, if I ever take the cap off it im taking it off.

496bb waht was your name there?
