Don't knock me out if this sounds stupid but is there any way you could use the glow plug hole to put a guage in?

Fingers offers a cylinder pressure monitor sensor to fit this spot. I have one and I think several others besides himself have sensors. We are able to graph pressures in relation to crank angle degrees and pulse width.

Wade Moody, aka Accelerator, ProStockRCR, DieselPower, etc, etc, etc, cannot be with us for 7 days.

NASA has called on him to develop a Cummins CR powered Mars lander, so he will be busy.

Either that, or he was trashing tech threads.

Which one could it be?

None of the above.
NASA needs aluminum rods for the space shuttle and it just so happens he has them in stock. ::rofl:

Burst is when you have managed to cool the chamber below auto-ignition temps. Call it a dead load.

But, what do I know......

Is that also known as hydro lock?? Or am I thinking something different. If so, how badly would timing have to be screwed with ona diesel to cause cyl temps to drop that far???

More a matter of how much fuel you inject and how fast rather than timing. But timing is a factor. At higher fuel quantities, vaporization of the later part of the pulse has to have the additional heat of the fuel burning to happen.

I'll put together the rough numbers for you later today.

You can estimate the chamber temps from the pressure plot IF you know the initial temp of the air charge.

I would guess that temp is most effected by cylinder pressure so since we know our cylinder pressure one could get close by using PV=NRT

Just curious, how much do you think the charge cooles from the time it is burned until it reaches the EGT probe in the header? I dont think It would be very much due to the specific heat of air.

I was reading some papers on diesel injection.

It seems that with big injectors and low pressure, the fuel hits piston or cylinder, and swirls like a mushroom before it ignites. With high pressure CR's, it starts to ignite about half-way before it hits anything. Getting the ignition point closer to the nozzle is the goal for soot reduction, and fuel efficiency (HP). But it is going hit the piston with flame instead of just fuel droplets. Pilot injection can move the ignition point closer to the nozzle.

Correct, PV = nRT will give you the temps in the chamber BUT you need the starting temp of the charge.

Trick question on the cooling, since under pressure, the gases will be at a much higher temp anyway. In general, 1/3 of the heat goes into the chamber walls and the piston, 1/3 is converted to mechanical energy, and only about 1/3 goes out the pipe. The ratios vary some with the tune and the mechanicals of the system. If I have enough time tonight, I will finish the estimated temperature plots from the pressure data and post.

Where is our IAT measured with EFI Live? I though it was post intercooler near the MAP sensor but this is just my assumption.

IAT is measured ar the MAF on the 01-05 trucks, and the 06+ trucks have an IAT2 that's on the Y-Bridge in addition to the IAT at the MAF.

Do to me learning how to build one of these engines. I did not have enough clearence in the guides and I ran valve seals.:banghead: No valve seals and more clearence fixed it.

We had this problem with our first engine as well, bent a couple of push rods. Valves stems had some brown kind of gummy stuff on them we took to be fuel from over fueling at alower idle with the big injectors.

I ordered some of this but after they told me the shipping costs I canceled the order. Would have to add something for lubrication to this stuff for our engines too wouldn't you?

According to them no you do not have to add anything for lubrication... I just looked at the prices for a 55 g/ drum HOLY HELL I was going buy a drum a few months back and it was 350$ plus shipping. You have to ship it too a business otherwise shipping costs are outrageous.
