When you say "tuning" do you mean you are using software and hardware of some sort to download the stock tuning from these trucks, making the necessary changes to it and then loading your custom tune in the truck? Or are you refering to loading in a tune from a box (that may have had your limited input) on the truck then setting up the truck (Dodge definition of tuning) around that? In your own quote you say that most if not ALL fuel should be shot BTDC, which is dead wrong from everyone else's testings.

So anyway back to keeping pistons from melting.

Lets talk diesel fuels related to tuning.

Higher cetain makes the fuel ignite faster

Higher BTU's can make for a more powerfull explosion

is it possible that our fuel's are limiting our tuning ability AND our reliability???

any input on this ?

Big injectors didn't seem to help them if I'm reading it correctly.

My take is they do help. What I think those guys are missing is Comp ratio. The higher your comp ratio the more heat you get in the air charge. This makes the fuel light easier but IMHO at can make it real hard to get the fuel in under lots of boost and rpm. Lower the compression gives you both more room the fuel and air and a little more time before it lights making things much more forgiving.

Add that with there inabilty to remove Pilot injection. They are actually running far more timing than they realize because the larger injectors pilot shot now becomes a power shot.

Wow is that the second or third person to actually step up and say they melted something in their motor, it seems with 4000+ views and 250+ posts more people would have actual experience with engine problems and be able to offer first hand info about state of tune and engine life duration etc....Insted of the majority of "tuners" speculating on what the cause is when they them selfs already have the solution to the problem, which must be to have them tune your truck...Because they have never had any problems...Hmhmhmhm

Just how long does one expect an engine to last when its tuned and built to the edge of destruction??? It should last one race event anything more is on borrowed time. Now if its built and tuned reasonably twice a year tear down and inspected would be the order of the day and you would probably see less catastrophic failures. JMHO from years of doing nothing special and not being the best in the world at nutin...

Evereything was stock on the motor besides the basics, exaust intake, blocked egr, lift pump, etc.Egts were high at times but did not pay attention to it at the time.Learned from it.

Very true, i have ran over 2000* at one time, briefly, no melted pistons, but my back pressure was at a 3:1 level, after i addressed the issue( bigger turbin housing) DP went down to about 1.5:1 and egt's went down to 1500* same tune.
