Maximum Allowable ET for heads up classes

What is everyone thoughts on establishing a maximum allowable ET to run in the heads up events at our diesel races. I hate to see happen what happened to Trent at the Edge event. A mid 12 truck won Prostreet due to the two quick trucks being matched in the semi's. One timed out and Trent broke. The slow truck had a bye due having the best RT in the previouos round which is another thing that should be changed. Quickest ET in the previous round should get any bye if there is one. RT is good for index and brackets not for heads up. I think this would be better for the race and not so boring for the fans. The temperamental Prostreet trucks wouldn't have to race the slow ones and risk additional chance of breaking or additional heat soak.

As far as NHRDA is concerned I think 11.49 for ProStreet, (that way every truck would have to have at least a roll bar) and say 12.50 for Superstreet.

Nadm would be the same, (11.49) for Prostreet. Their next is a 12.0 index so it wouldn't apply.

I don't think the quicker classes would have a problem, doubt any 12+ truck want to take on Dirty Max, although Rob beat it with him street truck in a real race a couple years ago in Billings when Dirty Max was running prostreet. Michael bogged it off the line and Rob caught a great light and Michael couldn't catch him.:angel:

im not a racer but i like the idea.

although that is how it goes, best guy doesnt always win or the guy everyone wants to. it can always be that guy who was playing it safe and just out there to have fun with his DD.

In the last event for Div 6 there where prostreet trucks running 17 seconds

these guys wanted to run superstreet but because they had batteries in the bed they where bumped to prostreet

That rule is so stupid!

I really like it but what about the trucks that cant run them times but want to do heads up.Do we spent 10k to be able to run heads up or do we have to stay in et for ever.

I see both sides here so I'm not sure I have an opinion right now.

But I don't really see the fun in "heads-up" racing against an opponent that has you covered by 2 or 3 seconds. Yeah you can win if something bad happens to the quicker truck, and I've never seen any sort of excuses that get printed on timeslips. So a win is a win.

Taking Ken's idea a little further, you could enter your daily driver in Top Diesel. Probably not the right thing to do, and I would never do it. But there aren't any rules that say you can't.

I heard quite a few guys this year running SS saying they actually drive there trucks daily and DONT stand a chance. Hell i barely stand a chance in superstreet class.

I was There and agree with Ken,they matched up the 2 fastest truck in the semi and that wasnt the wright thing or very fair.I didnt see the 12.5 max Ken posted and think that is a time most can get to without `spending alot of money.

I agree with the new class thing, considering the bar in super "street" is set in the 9s or 10s now, some of those trucks aren't real street trucks. The weekend warrior guys really dont stand a chance anymore. I like the idea of a 12 second index class like in the NADM, seems like thats a good true street truck class.

Then the guys running 9s detune and run 12s:(

I think they need a rule that in order to run SS you have to drive to the tack and have some dirt under the truck And maybe some bug guts in the rad:D

That is true, but at least it gives the guys with trucks that actually run 12s a chance to be competitive:thumb:, I can't see Torrey driving his truck to get groceries :rofl:

I have a question to ask,What percentage of the trucks at a event run 12.5 and better.I would bet it is less than 20-30 percent and you have all the classes built around them.I have not been in the drag raceing,but I have been raceing other types of things and when most of the classes are built around the faster and deeper pockets the sport starts to fail.It is usually the entry level classes that keep the sport alive.

Bottom line is nhrda needs to make it more appealing for people to build fast trucks. Fans don't come to watch 12 second trucks. There will always be holes No matter how they setup the classes. Right now in division 6 superstreet you need a 10.50 truck to be anywhere near competetive and really more of a 10.0 truck. As far as max's go I would say 11.0 in pro street and 12.0 in superstreet. If they were to setup an index I would like to see 10.50, but again division 6 is probably the only division that could field a decent number of trucks in this class.

Good point Drew! I know the crowd loves to watch the fast trucks but in all honesty most of those guys run SS becauses they want to win and know they can because they have fast trucks. The crowd IMO prefers a close race, The other night racing the stands where on there feet when collin and I raced a 10.82 to a 10.85 they loved it and i did too!:)

I raced a stang after that and he ran a 13.xx and i ran a 10.4 they didnt care.

There are a lot of trucks that wouldnt go get grocerys:rofl: Big Bird ( kelly ) I must say does still drive his truck and he runs high 10s

I guess I just don't get it! I would be the happy to race the 12 sec trucks! If anyones truck in the fast classes has to worry about a slow truck you need to rethink your class. If there was 15 or 20 trucks to make up the classes, Then maybe. Now, theres just not enough trucks to care how slow they are. They need trucks to fill the classes. I just like to race! Give me all the slow trucks(which mine is now) it sounds like a easy round to me. Jeff

Why not sand bag it then if you line up to a slow truck, like mine:eek: You know you will have the win never the less ;)

If they're bracketed right (by ET, quickest races the slowest in the first round and so on) then the fastest truck will race the second fastest truck in the semi finals unless one of them breaks or beats himself somehow. Like Jeff said, there is no reason a 10 second truck should worry about being beat by a 12 second truck.
