Well good ,at least we got a little life going in this forum. I still think a max et is a good thing. Probably not needed till we get lots of trucks in a class but it make for better racing. Sorry Jeff you and I don't agree on this one.

I think the first thing is if you are going to run Pro street you should min have a roll bar , second the by run should always be given the the fastest ET , I think how NHRDA does it works very well , I was pretty pieved, because me and the Bully Dog truck both thought were in the final race , and didnt even know the other guy was even in our class , i had the race won at the tree , he timed out , the only reason i even ran the pass out is i thought it was the final round , ya the motor would have popped any way but at least i would have been coming home with a 1st place a a check twice as big . I think after talking with NADM they wont let it happen again , and it was more the tracks fault than theres , but the should have been more involved in there own event and seen what was going on , they cared enough to watch the 2 fastest trucks run full tilt just to make it to the finals and race a 12 sec dodge that won the top purse and never even had to line up against a competitor , boy that's a awesome finally for the fans

there needs to be more trucks , that would allow alot of changes , but as Jeff said and i agree completely , if we have our trucks setup right it should be like shooting fish in a barrel ;) and if the trucks cant hold together we better re-think what class were in and turn them down .

I agree that in a heads up class the bye run should go to quickest ET. In a bracket class, the bye should go to the quickest reaction time. I think safety equipment requirements should be determined by ET only, not class. I also see no need for a maximum ET. Why didn't the competitors know who was racing in the class? Did the officials not show you the bracket?

This is why I really like index racing. I run a lot of local 12.0 classes and you are side by side the entire way down the track. More often than not with MOVs routinely in the .07sec and less range. The problem is we really do not have enough trucks to make a lot of different index classes.

Superstreet should be a true street class, lisc, tagged, working AC, working wipers etc...i think 11.0 or faster would be a bit extreme.

Just my .02

The rules will never be perfect. That being said, the above does nothing. I could add the A/C back in my race truck I suppose. Can't run it at the track and it just adds clutter. The other stuff you mentioned is already there, but doesn't make it a street truck. Same can be said for many others.

Also who's to say what is a street truck? I could drive mine around town I guess. So what? How many NHRA gas street cars race heads up? Not many.

Like Subman's "DD SS race truck".... my ass it's a DD.

I like the old saying run what you brung and hope you brung enough. Screw the tree I want it like the good old street racing days. Everyone must being able to pass tech and fill up at the track. Then go on a drive and must finish the drive under there own power to race in the first place no damn trailer bit chs. Jeff should now what i'm talking about like with the fastest street car days. But rather a tree I would like to have a hand drop start lol. Call me crazy I still like my street racing but this would be a safer way of it hehe. I'm thinking some White Lightning would be up for this by next season if all would work out.

Class racing

You just don't know how a race is going to go, That's why you race. I agree et should have been used for the ladder in a heads up class. That still doesn't mean your going to get the truck you think you would. Last weekend Matt had the Stucky truck first round. Matt was #3 qualifier and Stucky was at the bottom of the ladder. Stucky could not get down the track for one reason or another. That put him with Matt first round. Ladders can help or hurt you depending on how everyone qualifies. That why I say I would ALWAY'S take the 12 second trucks and be very happy about it. If he didn't have that truck first round he probably(well maybe not) would not have run it hard enough to blow it up. If he had a 12 second truck he might have made it into the second round. We all need to make these trucks go more rounds. Untill they go rounds and not break these shows are not going to get better! I always run my truck only as hard as I have to! I like going rounds and that's why I dropped mine back a class. My ego will let me do that, I just like to race. I made 21 passes at the race last weekend and to me that's racing. In a couple of weeks i'm going to run the NHRA Unleased raced in there 12.00 class. I might(I hope) have to make a lot of passes to do good there. Sorry about the rant be wee just need to make these truck make passes. Until they do I'm affraid we just won't have big classes. These things take big money to run at this level. They need to last. They need to give the fans a reason to come and watch. They want to watch more than 3 or 4 trucks run. I would rather see a 12 sec truck beat a faster truck than watch a 10 sec. truck make a by run. I like the underdog! That's just me. Jeff

It would be a DD if I could ever keep the SOB running.:D I fully plan on driving it to and racing the NHRDA events that are within a reasonable distance next year. It's as close to a DD super street truck as you are going to get and still be somewhat competitive. Mika's runs 9 seconds now and he drives it to the track. Don't think he has a roll bar in it either.

Our biggest problem is there are not enough trucks to fill out the classes. There are hardly any ProStreet trucks out west at all. It is no fun to no one to race. Hell last year at Woodburn when I was driving Max'd Out there was me and the 2x4 12 sec dodge that Bill Allen from Source Auto was driving. I gave him a two second head start in the finals just to make a better race out of it.

Superstreet is turning out to be a really fun class. Yes, there are a couple of trucks that if they are running well should dominate that class, but there are a ton of very fast trucks and it is a fun class to watch. Maybe it would be even better if we replaced the current superstreet class with a 10.5 index class. That would really level the playing field for many of the trucks. Prostreet could stay heads up.

I hear what you are saying Jeff and I don't disagree. Probably one of the most entertaining drag races I ever saw was when Rob beat Michael in Dirty Max in the Prostreet finals at Billings a couple of years ago. Michael bogged it off the line and Rob caught a great light. Michael needed about another 10 feet of track and he'd caught Rob. Agree I love the underdog too, and given the chance to go another round I'd race a 12 sec truck too and fender him to save my truck. Turning it down a bit and going rounds is a good thing. The laddering is always the luck of the draw, especially in the first round. I liked what TS was going to do this year, mandatory 3 time trials. If you don't go three then you are laddered below the slowest ones who did.

Anyway this is a good discussion, nice to see some life around here. Anyone ever notice this person who goes by IONE lurking around the forums and drag racing threads but never posts, who is this masked man?

DHRA tried a 10.5 class back in 07, everybody knows how well that worked

Not near the trucks running that time then as there are now, and it would take trucks who can run 9's out of the equation. Everyone who runs thr 12.0 index loves it, so why don't you think a 10.5 wouldn't work?

IIRC alot of guys boycotted cause they wanted to run heads up no index thats what started the outlaw races. You run a 9 sec truck in the 10.5 by de-tuning & hitting the brakes. The east coast 12.0 races are mostly won by 11 sec trucks getting out in front & braking in the traps.

just a thought, anybody remember the old DHRA weight rules back in 05-06
Think it was
6000lbs min weight for a 4x4 single turbo, 5500 for 2wd
6500lbs for nitrous or second turbo(no nitrous & twins) 6000 for 2wd

x2... a 10.5 class would be awesome. It would be awesome to have laddered classes because it gives the guys that don't have lots of money a chance. Super Street should be just that a street class none of this low 10 high 9 stuff pretty ridiculous. If you can't run mid to low 11's you wouldn't be competitive in SS. Problem with NHRDA is there is PS, SS, or Sportsman ET... i don't know about you guys but if i run low 12's against a guy that runs 17.5 that means a lot of time being on my converter for what?

I started this thread because I was bored and I hated to see happen what happened to Trent and thd Bully Dog truck the other night at the Edge event. I don't think there are ever going to be a lot of prostreet trucks, they are just too damn expensive to keep running let alone be competitive. The 10's and 11's is where there are going go be a lot of trucks. You can do that without breaking the bank and make them live as well. We need a class that will promote that speed of truck, and allow most everyone a reasonable chance of winning without having to have the other guy break, whatever it is. It doesn't appear that messing around with weight limits and equipment is the best way to go. I know that Randy of NHRDA is no fan of index racing, but in many ways it seems to be the most workable solution. Detuning a mid to high 9 sec truck to run 10.5 is very doable. That is still fast, in the 130mph range and very exciting to watch for the fans. There would still the the Prostock class for head up racing. If I'm reading most of the imput correct, you would let anyone in that who wants to run it. That's fine with me, I really don't care one way or the other.

Hopefully we can get the leadership of the organizations to listen to us and make some reasonable changes to help promote our sport. God forbid they actually talk to each other to avoid scheduling events that are in close proximity from being held on the same day.:D

Seems to me the scenario that happened at the Edge event was a perfect storm of sorts. Stingpuller is right, a 9 or 10 second truck running a 12 second truck should be like shooting fish in a barrel and no big deal.

Ken, I agree messing with the equipment rules is probably not the way to go. Especially if the goal is try and cap the performance at some arbitrary level. I'm not that familiar with sledpulling, but it seems all the turbo rules and such just leads to people thinking up new ways to bend those rules, and create a whole bunch of whining from people that are sad they didn't think of it first. That's just the nature of any type of heads-up type class IMO.

I think we should run a 10.73 index. JK :joker:

Texas Y'all
I know im might get bashed for this, but i have to say it. They're not going to add classes when the fan base, and trucks arent there. I love drag racing too, its just not big around here, you know how many 11 and 10 second trucks there are in missouri? Not many, kinda the reason i switched back to pulling, more competition for me, and a bigger fan base around here. Id say if you could get trucks they would add classes. Mid 10 second trucks are very do able, but theres still not that many that compete out here in the midwest, i dont know, maybe you guys could get a good west coast class going, but here in the midwest, you wouldnt have more than a handfull of trucks show up, and the crowd would be slim to none. The only reason the Topeka event is going to be big, is cause everyones coming from out of town. I bet you could count the number of local people there with not too many hands.

As far as the low powered trucks winning pro street, that happens everywhere, not breaking is part of the game.

I would have to agree with Rob about not many fast trucks in the midwest. There are a few in Iowa but most are set up for pulling. Be neat to have a king of the street challenge. Has to be a dot approved truck and tires and current on registration. Drive x amount of miles to a track, can't pop the hood for anything but can switch tires, and make 3 runs hot lapping and the fastest average wins. Is there anywhere that does this for diesels?
